that said with how they handled shadow in more recent years is pretty good and he doesn't feel nearly as "edgy" as he used to more like an actual character (keeping in mind that character is a talking cartoon hedgehog made for the kids)

I don't think anyone gets pissed off at him, aside from arguably seeing him as a symbol for where the series took a massive turn into something else. Most people just don't take him seriously anymore that they did with that Looney Tunes Unleashed show. That being said I liked him in the movie.

But if I had to guess, I'd say the sonic series took a almost unanimously agreed turn for the worst quality wise sonic heroes/ ShTH onward
90s/00s edge is an acquired taste for sure, but I think the main issue is simply a negative association with the decoine of gaming in general, and shadow was introduced at a vulnerable time
