That's why big sites will probably put their muscle behind age verification laws - because they're big enough and often part of parent companies that can operate those sites as loss leaders and being propped up by investors while smaller sites will never take off or get crushed as they're unable to comply with the exorbitant costs of moderation and verification.

Like with Youtube wanting to "guess" your age and ask for ID if it thinks you're under 18. What's their incentive or accountability to make that system accurate in any way? You really don't think they'll make it as loosey goosey as possible to create a lot of false positives? That they won't ask your ID just as an excuse to sell your data to third-parties who probably complain about ads not being targeted as well as they could be for people who watch Youtube? The difference is that while TV channels obviously still push some agenda, there's at least *some* degree of standards, integrity and information selection there (although even in there it's been going down the drain in last decade or two). Meanwhile on the Internet literally anyone can push even obviously deranged takes or blatantly fake information and with some luck and charisma they will probably find a group of retards who'll believe it and spread it further.
