and now movies use cgi for everything. being an actor has to suck now, imagine trying to act in a situation where you don’t have anything to follow by and only your imagination because the director finds toe expensive to put a door or some shit to help you with your acting.

Forget that for a moment and realize since maybe between 2001-2009 was the absolute peak of CGI. King Kong, the LOTR trilogy, Dead Mans Chest, Avatar and a handful of other movies. Since then its been steadily downhill. The question is why? If your fucking movie is dependent on CGI it would behoove you to use the best and brightest and time of all things, to make it convincimg.

You're going to get people coming into this thread telling you this doesn't look good akshualee.

CGI in live action movies used to be a tool back then. It was used to enhance a scene, not create it. Modern movies are like 95% CGI.

because good cgi costs too much and shekelberg demands higher margins. hollywood became so shit to work in for vfx artists that the talented ones fucked off to better jobs. talent is also spread thinner than ever due to games and movies demanding more and more cgi and because work conditions are so abysmal that only dumb freshmen would work for them

they call it "competency crisis" because admitting fault is impossible for ceos

IDK man it's pretty close. I love the detail that lighting has now, I feel like games have finally gotten to pretty much the point where they look as good as a pre-rendered 3d movie, that was always my dream as a kid. Not to have games look literally like real life, but to look as perfect and detailed as a Pixar movie. Ray tracing has lead us a great deal of the way there and I'd be happy for this to be where graphics stop improving. I find myself blown away sometimes by how good shit can look. Of course they need to be refined and cleaned up a little more in terms of motion clarity and performance but quality wise it's pretty much there for me.

movie CGI takes forever to pre-render and is also incredibly expensive
>>717087484
that very much does not meet the level of quality in the OP
>>717087687
shit like this all has to be fake, or else why do you only see it in "real-time cinematic demos" and never in games
Anonymous No.717088696

pretty much just because raytracing is still not quite here yet and PBR materials are never given the attention they need

When they made a CGI kraken destroying the ship they actually built a ship just to destroy it.

Nobody is going to fund practical effects like that now.

What a strange coincidence!

At the cost of games taking even longer to make and the cost of them being so high it’s unstable?
