Yeah that's fair, it's very much its own beast. The later novels go in their own direction and it's kind of interesting, but like I said it doesn't really hold up to that original story. Hasekura kind of struck gold with Holo both from a character and design perspective, and managed to make Lawrence into like her perfect complement. It's hard to recreate that kind of perfection.

I like manga. I often prefer reading the manga over watching the anime (an e-reader makes this very convenient too). But I also have a lot of books that I should actually be reading, technical stuff for my job or research or just hobby stuff. Manga is sufficiently different from a books that I don't feel like I'm wasting my time but LN or fiction books makes me feel like I should be reading the technical books instead and that I'm wasting my time not being productive.
