Not at all. Pure mage builds require dodging too, here you get rewarded since it fills up your mana. Theres also a skill that effectively gives you perma 3 sky might if you are over 90% madness.

- Backstab surface isn't as strict as DS/BB, works even if you are facing sides as long as it's from the behind angle

- When you stagger an enemy, you have time to perform a charged heavy before executing Obliterate. Free damage.
- Unlock faster charged heavy for your main weapon asap
- Swift Draw (L3) is strong and under-used. Equip 2 weapons of the same type for best damage output during bosses. I hate pressing L3 by mistake so I swapped keybind with changing spell (dpad left)
- You can hold X and Y for quick-use items and spells instead of cycling through them
- You can hold A to run without using the dodge
- When exploring the world, equip 1H sword for the passive magic regain (first node unlocked in 1H tree branch), and Swift Draw when entering combat to quickly switch to your main. 1H is essentially the game's magic wand
- Once you reach level ~30, do a respec and unlock a full tree branch to reveal all hidden nodes, and repeat for all 6 branches
- If a boss hits too hard, consider going zero madness. Similarly, if a boss feels too tanky, consider going max madness
- Demon Madness can be worst enemy... or best ally. Attacks anything in sight. It's yet another tool you can weaponize if needed
- Same with traps like mines, lure tough enemies towards them
- Red barrels are explosives, use fire pots
- Always apply Temperance before a boss
- If ambushed in tight places, immediately backtrack so you get more space and can isolate enemies
- Heavy armor has best def stats but you want Wuchang to look sexy? You can change all outfits to look like other outfits. Centipede Armor is good early on
- You can stealth walk behind enemies to backstab them unnoticed. But... watch out for ambushes
- If using Longsword with Counter variants, hold R1 after counter to gap close and thrust instead of slash

Keep in mind that people overhype their personal favourite weapons and rate things without actually understanding them, like they'll switch from Spear to Axe for the Honglan fight and that huge difference in difficulty is what'll colour their opinions on the weapons from then on. It's TAA. TAA is smoothing method that uses upscaling from a lower resolution screenshot. Older AA methods like MSAA used higher resolution screenshots that were down downscaled. UE5 is built around all kinds of upscaling nonsense and devs now refuse to use anything but TAA, just because it's the most economical in terms of how demanding it is. While it is the least demanding, it looks like shit.

The game is balanced around things like those, anon. Dodging normally is the back up option so you can't get "stuck" without resources, but you're meant to use the other stuff like Alacrity, Fleetness, Clash, Deflect, etc as your main approach. I kinda wonder how many are just playing it like a Souls game.

Alacrity and Fleetness work on everything in the game, and you can get Alacrity with any weapon. Resilience also lets you tank hits so you don't need to dodge normal attacks, and there's no reason why you couldn't run almost all of the other options together to avoid using the worse basic dodge. It is the "main defense mechanic" in the sense that you can always fall back on it, but the intended way to play is by actually using the other mechanics. You are not meant to just press Dodge Roll + Basic Attack spam, and you know this. The game knows this, and so do the people complaining about the game who were forced to change builds for Honglan.

Yep, but sometimes she opens up the fight with a kick and stomp combo and I die before even swinging the sword. After a couple tries, I memorized her moves and backstabs carried me. She started casting a spell with a sliver of HP left so I just tanked some damage to get the win.

The reward sucks though. No costume, only a pendant for blunt damage which I don't use. And it brings you to the rebel camp which I cleared first.

You have to enter the shu temple underground from the other side, so go to the back of the temple and start making your way back through Tang palace etc

I could never find a way to backstab her. Even when she had openings, she just turned invincible for some reason, before jumping away. Her kicks ALWAYS hit me, and each hit took 80% of my health. I could never get the timing for them. And in phase 2, her fox form would always get me at least once, and then she would go turbo aggressive, not allowing me to heal. Which led to me eventually taking a second hit, and dying.

What i got is that Wuchang wants to resurrect her dead younger sister. To do so she goes to her childhouse home to retrieve a tool that her parents used to try to resurrect his toddler brother and fucked it up
She retrieves the tool, unbeknownst to her a piece out of 5 of a more powerful tool but contracts the feathering disease which messes with her memory and starts taking her arm. She loses conscience at some point on the travel back and her companion leaves her in the care of a tao doctor studying the feathering disease.
Game starts
Wuchang helps find information on the feathering disease and its link to the "Bo" people. She learns of the battle that the old deity had with its rival and how he trapped him but now is starting to seep out of his prison which is causing this whole red mercury shit.
Game ends
During the game we sort of learn that trying to ress her sister wuchang is trapped on a cycle by the cryptic boatman, which seems to be some sort of agent of death or grim reaper or whatever. Eventually she is only to break the cycle in 2 of the endings by either going deep into an illusion world in which she ress her sister and lived happily ever after or learning to let go and moving on with her live, sort of taking Fan Zhao as her younger sister surrogate. The other ending shows Wuchang trapped on the cycle and being experimented on by the tao doctor.

Without touching in the "themes" of the videogame thats what i got of the story.

Anyone else unironically love this game?

Yes, there are some dogshit early parts. Yes it takes a while to "click", at least it was for me. Yes the zone visuals could probably use be a bit more varied. Yes, it needed more weapons in the world to find.
But the fundamentals are just right. The combat is solid, the magic system is perfect (i hate mana potion based magic), and the looping paths and shortcuts are amazing
I really hope there's DLC and Sequel.

Case in point, the guy below you talking about Ming General being hard replying to someone who struggled a bit with Fang Ling. Meanwhile I didn't struggle with either of them, but it took me like 10+ tries to beat Centipede.

Doesn't change the fact that Honglan is an easy fight that the game literally teaches you how to easily beat a moment beforehand, or that we have people viewing that tutorial about a mechanic designed to be used while the enemy is attacking and still complaining about there not being enough openings to attack for the fight.
