I could accept japanese silent hill, but yeah, with all the combat shit it's barely even a horror game. It's also what I hated in SH2 remake. Once you got a gun, it just was so much combat. I think I ended up killing hundreds of enemies by the end of the game.

Seems like a really obvious attempt to sell a product to a wider audience using a recognizable IP name.

You wouldnt even have given this a second look if it didnt have Silent Hill in the title, so I guess it worked huh. Its odd how many games are made like this now, like they have no faith in making something new so they instead just retool it as part of something else.

Original was scary and had great atmosphere even with mediocre combat. You don't play SH for combat. Remake has barely any atmosphere of the original so they compensated with lots of enemies and better graphics. They didn't even bother to make an actual LOOP of the ambient music that plays randomly it just fucking stops and begins anew. That shit ruins atmosphere. Also there were segments with total silence in the original that made you feel uneasy like something bad was about to happen. All that subtle stuff was ignored by remake devs. Fucking hate these hacks.

We got a lot of info from both the gamespot and IGN hands-on. I'll try to list them all as best I can.

Average playtime is around 12-13 hours.
Everyone gets canon event in first playthrough.
There are 5 endings with one being UFO one.
Over the shoulder view and no UI in exploration mode.
You can set difficulty for combat and puzzles. Story mode seems like journos mode.
Puzzles don't seem too hard based on first 5 hours or 1/3rd of game playthrough. Combat does ramp up with difficulty.
Combat entirely melee based. You find weapons lying around the world like resources.
Combat based on timed dodges and counterattacks.
Counterattacks are crucial and enemies show a brief window for this.
Focus mode helps window of counterattack last longer and stagger with power attacks.
Focus mode is tied to mental energy which decreases with certain events or enemy scares you.
Possible weapons you can find: Iron pipes, kitchen knives, baseball bats.
Hinako can only carry up to 3 weapons at a time.
Weapons have durability and change appearance as they degrade with use.
Hinako will mention this in game that they need to be fixed if durability is low enough.
Weapons can be fixed with a repair kit but they are scarce.
Enemies don't drop EXP or resources so most times its better to run away from them.
You can convert resources such as healing times at save points/ shrines to convert to increase your stats or get an amulet with buffs on it.

Weapons in the otherworld don't break like the Naginata. You can't take them back with you.
The priestess boss does have multiple stage fights.
Silent Hill f's combat was inspired by difficult action games which could include soulslike.
Game is less linear than expected.
Map does auto update as you explore.
Puzzles reveal stuff about Hinako and world she inhabits.
Rice field scare crow puzzle is related to a past trauma she had when she was little.

Homecoming and Downpour were masterpieces compared to SH2 demake.

Were they the best SH games? Not by a long shot, but they were in essence Silent Hill games. SH2 demake does not have any right to exist, it misunderstood the original on an elemental level and just became a mockery of what SH2 is.

You know damn fucking well what "story based on gender roles" means. It means "demands placed on women = bad." When has it ever not meant that? It's always a criticism on natural responsibilities written by a dejected, resentful loser who thinks usurping the divine hierarchy is a good thing.
