Past a certain point, no amount of runes can save a player without sufficient skill

The point is to eventually learn the game well enough that you have to handicap yourself to make it more challenging. As the handicap increases, so does your ego. You then develop this complex that makes you see basic features of the game that are completely optional as "easy mode". Because of this, you've assigned yourself as part of the unofficial gatekeepers of the Elden Ring, a group of individuals so high on their perceived accomplishments that they mentally can not accept that people have legitimately beaten the game using any and all tools at their disposal.

never used summons but there's one baffling design in shadow of the erdtree

A Rot Dragon Breath caster with a Greatshield + Poison/Rot/Bleed poking weapon cheeses the fuck out of everything
Hell, the "HARDEST" boss in the game is a complete joke with Greatshield + Rot Rapier

Then there's the Mimic/Tiche on top of all of that

Rot Breath requires timing since you're locked into the animation for a million years.
Fingerprint shield needs you to platform.
Mimic Tear/Tiche requires you to progress far enough through the Ranni questline (and the latter is from a 1v1 Evergaol fight)

There is a minimum skill floor. Might not be a high one, but ER is not some JRPG where you can just grind enough xp to let you beat the rest of the game without thinking.
