Regardless of how you feel about the norse games this idea that there is ANYTHING you can do writing wise with Kratos' character pre GOW4 is just bullshit. Kratos's only use as a character writing wise is to suffer or make people suffer, he has no other traits in the original games. This is not a problem for a dumb character action game but if you want to make a show, old Kratos geniunenly cannot work as a protagonist, and if you try to change the core parts of the character so it does work, you just get new Kratos.

I think 2 and 3 lose the plot a bit but 1 is very much a greek tragedy and Kratos isn't just a wrecking ball that blames everyone else. The game even starts by completely destroying this idea.

The thing about nuKratos is that he doesn't even work as character without his past. The fact that he was this force of nature is what justifies his more controlled demeanor. We know what he's capable of when he flies off the hinges. Maybe they'll just add a bunch of flashbacks but I think that would be a disservice.
