I didn't like this game nearly as much as Mario Odyssey and as far as I'm concerned its a failed experiment. DK is way too powerful, it's like playing TotK with a permanent hoverbike. I got about 90% of the bananas in the game by just seeing them on my sonar and blindly smashing forward until I touched them. As a result all the levels in the first 2/3 of the game are just interchangeable mush in my memory; I don't remember any specific level features just tunneling forward. It isn't until the final 2 levels that the game actually starts to feel like a real video game and took my brain off autopilot and then it's over. Great final boss though at least.

For me the presentation was too condescending and overzealous with how overly childish it was trying to be that I ended up dropping it after the Ice/Fire world. The game's just an ADHD sinulator. Not to mention all the nostalgia bait, which at this point any game that does it is just disingenuous. DKfags really need to ask themselves if this is what they want the series to be going forward.

I literally cannot understand any point of view that puts odyssey over any other game in anything even REMOTELY resembling difficulty.

The only thing in Bananza where you feel more powerful than Odyssey is the first half of the boss fights, the bosses eventually ramp up to considerably harder than Odysseys offerings (even if that only means they're as hard as Galaxy, until the final boss is harder than anything in either).
Like I cannot fucking comprehend how people can go into every single level, stack goombas, talk to the same 10 NPCs and play Mario 1 on the NES over and over and consider it the peak of gameplay.
I don't think Bananza is the greatest platformer Nintendo has made or anything, but its better than sunshine and way better than Odyssey.

No one said Odyssey is difficult, however Odyssey actually makes you engage with the level design and it's fun to explore the level and discover little nooks and crannies things are hidden in. In DK you can collect everything without registering in your head where it is in relation to other things. It's the difference between listening to smooth jazz and listening to static. Both are mindless and low effort but one gives your brain the minimum level of engagement for pleasure

The fucking generic Disney song in Bananza is not nearly as good as either of the vocal tracks in Odyssey holy shit.
