I think the arcade mindset does create more FUN games. I'm not saying thats objectively better but it is more fun. Something like the og Resident Evil 4 is clearly a game made with an Arcade mindset and it is very fun and very replayable. But I mean games like say Zelda OOT and FF7 are not arcade mindset games and they are great too.

It's true. He has correctly identified 2 major problems that we feel more and more each passing year in gaming.
>1: The death of the arcade and the arcade game
>2: The death of dedicated handheld game systems
Both of these losses have had a resounding impact on gaming as a whole because both were the prime grounds for lower risk low-cost experimental game design while having a critical focus on being fun from the moment you start the game. Arcade games and handheld games both force developers to choose inherently solid game design rather than creating garbage slop.

He was right. Fun is a meaningless word for critique if you can't back it up. Some people think getting hit in the balls is fun. Some faggots think any sort of challenge isn't fun. Dead Rising's timer isn't "fun" but it's an essential part of the game and adds a ton of replay value.

The real advantage of arcade games is that they offer the "complete" experience in 5 minutes.
I see these people complaining that they no longer enjoy playing video games, that it's all like a chore for them, but that's because modern games require several hours of commitment to get into the "mood" of the game. It's like reading a whole book that isn't very entertaining in the first place...
With arcades, you press Start and immediately you start getting high doses of gameplay. Many games are already challenging in the first 15 or 30 seconds. Just imagine, in modern games, 30 seconds isn't even enough for you to get into the game, but in arcades, 30 seconds were already putting you in risky situations that required attention, concentration, and skill.

This. And it's probably why MP games are so popular as well. Plug-in and play.
AAA SP games
>intro cutscene for story
>tutorial
>story
>minor gameplay
>story
>VERY easy gameplay
>story
>gameplay
>menu handling
Then you stop playing for a month and you forget some stuff from the story. You forget things you've explored in the map. It does become a "chore" if you're not in the mood. It does not help that most of these are also not made with replayability in mind, looking at you RE7 and GoW.

Nowhere near as hardcore, longer(than psikyo shmups), more accessible, bigger focus on co-op, life bars are a staple so near perfection isn't required for completion, not auto scrollers with exception of some selected sections like elevators so players usually have more leeway etc.
>fighting games
Mainly pvp games, there aren't many pvp shmups(like twinkle star sprites). Winners can often camp on machines as long as they want too. Not many of them are focused on SP campaigns(like warzard) so AI is rarely balanced.

Plenty of arcade games have multiple characters/ships like pic related, there's really no difference from home games. I don't understand this argument.
