It was pretty impressive for the time, having a full playable portable Tekken that replicated the original very well at the time was awesome, remember that beforehand we only really had stuff like pic related to play Tekken on the bus or whatnot. They got lazy with asuka after tag 2 where she started to look progressively worse. t7 is where the game became a true asset flip that made tekken revolution look higher effort in looks. It was also the last tekken game on it's engine.

way I see it, Tekken 5 was Tekken 3 but better. It stood true to Tekken 3's style (unlike 4) while also improving on it massively. It took the perfect Tekken and made it even better for the next generation. Look at what came after. Look at Tekken 6, it was the patient zero for the cancer Tekken became later. Endless fucking juggles and wall carries, one match costing you almost all your health bar, stupidly overdesigned anime-looking characters compared to the earlier, simpler character designs that just worked.
real Tekken should be about well placed attacks, precise like a surgeon. not what 6 and 7 did.

Agreed. Probably the fastest I've checked out of a Tekken game (80 hrs compared to like 1k in T7 and well 24/7 in T3 back in college).
It's not just an unbalanced shitshow (especially the new meter mechanic), but the infinitely dumbed down customization, all the lying and the predatory monetization were the last straw.
Maybe they'll get their shit together for Tag 3 but I have literally 0 hopes after T8.

I think its because those animations & rigging skeletons were made for lower poly models, if they wanted them to look accurate to the concept art theyd have to make brand new animations from scratch. I wanna say its that, but I could be wrong. iirc Soul Calibur alos reused animations from the 6th gen era and some of the models looked fine.
