Ulysses is one of the best written characters in video games - him and New Vegas are one of the few cases where the "GAME" is positively used in regards to writing to create something more in depth (in really clever ways too, more subtle than most), rather than the game just having a movie inside of it.
The fact that he is criticized so heavily is why /v/idya never could reach /lit/erature in regards to writing.
Instead slop like TLoU2 and nuGoW get praised by the masses for writing when they're below shit like Breaking Bad in regards to depth and complexity.
Also note that almost the entirety of the content relevant to New Vegas and Ulysses actually stems from New Vegas itself, and relies very little on stuff from Fallout 1 or 2 (outside the setting)
