For all of these projects, I imagine that it's just about leaning into the qualia of experiencing the original show. With PR, it's just lots of cool fights and a team that seems like they care about each other. If you can manage that, you're gold. The last movie only had a couple of fights.
Gundam is up next, that one is also similarly easy to avoid fucking up: giant robots and people with sociopolitical ideals about how humans should relate that their wear on their sleeves (like during battle, over their radio/pa systems). Attempting to avoid controversy by stripping the latter is courting disaster.
Sailor Moon is one of the only series where I'd actually like them to go darker and edgier because unpacking the Dark Kingdom/Dark Moon Clan/Moon Kingdom/Crystal Tokyo stuff would be sweet. "Oh, I'm a reincarnation of a clone of my mother and in the future I'm going to be queen of the world and banish anyone who opposes me to an off planet ghetto? And I have no choice in the matter because my ancient alter ego is going to slowly consume my being? Sounds great." But not like that, I can't write dialogue.
