When did Zelda lose it's magic? For me, I would say the decline began with Skyward Sword.

The warning signs run as far back as Link's Awakening but I would say Wind Waker was a point of no return for the series.

It never did for me. Some entries are weaker than others, but as a franchise its one of the most consistently high quality in the medium. Before you screech about zoomers, my first Zelda was OoT.

The Legend of Zelda - The OG, not refined but an interesting place to explore and get lost in. Lots of secrets.
The Adventure of Link - The black sheep, but has a large, expansive world that's fun to explore with some secrets here and there and bizarre things like turning into a fairy
A Link to the Past - Great world to explore with neat (obvious) secrets scattered around the world. A very magical story of 2 worlds.
Link's Awakening - Kinda linear, but charming and with some memorable NPCs who carry a lot of personality for the series.
>Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages - Pretty 'gamified' version in that there's RNG collecting of random crap for no discernible reason and you need to have both versions to beat the real last boss. Has some whimsy, but kinda soulless.
The Minish Cap - Lots of charm and interesting secrets, but a small map
Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks - don't remember much
A Link Between Worlds - I beat it but I mostly remember buying every item before going into a dungeon. Didn't leave an impression.
Echoes of Wisdom - Cute, but the towns sucked and there weren't very interesting secrets.

Ocarina of Time - A good first jump into 3d. The story isn't too outrageous, but it set so many standards people think it's not special these days because they're been playing it all their lives without playing it.
Majora's Mask - Very interesting due to the time gimmick, but small areas that are easily explored
Wind Waker - Charming, but heavily flawed
Twilight Princess - Too linear, shit secrets
Skyward Sword - Shit
Breath of the Wild - Fun to explore, some interesting secrets but mostly just korok shit.
Tears of the Kingdom - Reused the map too soon

>the best games are the ones that came out when you were a kid
Wind Waker came out when I was 12. Fuck that game.
>the worst games are the ones that came out when you were an adult.
A Link Between Worlds is one of the few good post-WW games. Echoes of Wisdom is fine too.

>the games got bad when you turned 18
So the year Spirit Tracks came out? I hate the train to death but the dungeons were great and Zelda was charming. But seriously, FUCK the train parts.

When Aonuma stopped being a game designer and became a producer.
