I played the android version of Sonic 2 and when I fell in the chasm at the end of Mystic Cave I thought i screwed myself and ended up in rhe secret hidden palace level. What a mind blow I didnt know they added it to the mobile port.

Yes, but honestly the classic stages held it back. They made some stellar new ones too, and if the entire game was that rather than overelying on nostalgia sure, it would easily be considered the best 2D Sonic.

If they want a chemical plant inspired zone, they can do that, the Genesis Sonics did exactly that with multiple zones, just give it new music and colors and introduce the new gimmicks. It doesn't have to be literal chemical plant, it could be Chemical Factory or something and be red instead, inspired by Chemical Plants theme but with its own identity and bopping song.

The poster probably forgot, but I guess the skill thing in the images point probably incorporates that. Skillfully building and keeping momentum allows you to go faster in Sonic 1, which is why he considers it superior.

Spindash removed the need to build and keep momentum. Most players probably appreciate the convenience, but it did dumb things down and felt less rewarding.

One thing both Sonic 2 and 3 have is better level design, so here's a challenge. Play them without Spindash. I guarantee you'll have a lot more fun.

It's not even the best classic Sonic game, let alone best Sonic game period.

Nah I only started liking it when trying to get the generators. If you try to play it like a standard A to B Sonic game it's awful.
But yes I don't think it's at all controversial to point out that Wacky Workbench is the worst level in any 2D Sonic game

Which sonic game on sega had this split screen mode where you could race the other player? I used to play that on my own for hours, I don't know why. The art style was most comfy and heartwarming.
