The problem is that it dilutes Big Boss's character by retconning half the shit he achieved onto someone else, implying anyone can become him and achieve his feats, and that Venom is still ultimately a throwaway villain that was only created to be a jobber for Solid Snake in MG1, never playing an important part in the story, so basically it renders the whole story and hype around him to nothing

This is the biggest misconception of the last decade. The mechanics of the game were great but the actual gameplay was boring baron and bland. The world wasn't made to accommodate the freedom you had so it ends up feeling like the most empty biggest wasted potential open world game possibly ever released.

Does it? The only major thing it explicitly changes is that instead of Snake almost killing Big Boss at Outer Heaven he for real kills Venom. Not much else has changed, though it does introduce some ambiguities.

Which one is "better" is purely subjective as both deliver quality voice acting with different strengths and weakness, the problem with Suther is that he has no previous history with the MGS games, he obviously doesn't care at all about the games and he charged over 4 times the hourly rate David did for his VA sessions

Big Boss was the least interesting snake in the series. Venom, Liquid, Solid, and especially Solidus were all vastly much more interesting as characters. Also Kaz is objectively shit and should have got gutted 10 seconds after being met.

No, it makes Big Boss even stronger as a character.
Big Boss is just a man. He's not a mythical supersoldier or a psychic operative. He's just a resourceful guy with excellent training.
How did Big Boss accomplish all these things? Simple, he didn't, he wasn't alone.
That is LITERALLY the point and this is even pointed out in MGS3 repeatedly. Snake is way out of his depth duringnthat operation, but he makes it through, not because he's special, but because he has perseverance, skills and luck.

Kojima is a big fan of precisely this disconnect between myth and man.
