I really liked Shinobido, is there any game that would fill that void? Tenchu looks similar

I fucking loved Wrath of Heaven but I couldn't get into Z for some reason.

Give it another try. Also check out Kengo on the PS2

Upon replay it does show its age a bit from the repetitive nature of the missions to the really cheesy way you can max out speed and run to every enemy and kill them. On that note, the game rewarding you for killing enemies is a double edged sword since you can play very sloppily and still get a Ninja 5 for having killed everyone

Despite all that, it's a game that really makes you feel like you're doing ninja stuff even with the anime bullshit tacked on like the disguise or scarves and stuff.

>Japanese voice acting for Western release
>Great kabuki theater music that's dramatic and ominous
>Customizing your character is always fun

I'd like to see a game expand on this concept rather than a rerelease

a lot of things from that era haven't aged too well, but tenchu z in particular is the closest thing I can think of to a true Ninja Simulator

Tenchu Z is definitely the best non-Acquire Tenchu game, next to the PSP game that was basically Tenchu All-Stars and kind of a remake of T2 with some stuff from T3 and T:FS and a full blown level editor.
Honestly if they made a rerelease of Z and incorporated the level editor from that PSP game then it would have been the best ninja simulator game you could play for ages, kind of like Thief 1 and 2 with its fan mods.
The coop back in the day was so fucking fun, also the customization, you could have made some funny shit like banchou ninja or MGS3 style camo-clad ninja.

Shinobido is kind of a reboot of Tenchu by its original developers. They lost Tenchu IP after the second game because of contract and money shenanigans.
Shinobido puts more focus on factions, kind of like Way of the Samurai, that affects the story and you have a bit more items that directly affects your stats. Tenchu was a bit more straightforward but still had the open ended levels and tons of ninja tool interactions.
