Mario kart world. Why are jewtubers being so pissy about this one? The movement is fun and feels pretty deep and it has daisys amazing perfect tushy! I played a few of those knockout races this morning and it was unreasonably fun, that feels like how its meant to be played with how it connects a bunch of tracks in a row.

world is a million times more fun mechanically and the items are a million times better

Because the main online option makes you play more tracks that don't use this movement, lack many means of breaking out period, and if they do have cuts, it's a massive 3 shroom/gold cut through offroad, so playing lame is even stronger than it already is, and the gameplan is static.

Movement feels great but the segment tracks sucks because:

-most of them are straight lines, its boring
-most of them do not make use of the new mechanics like wall and rail driving
-because of the above, they are to most susceptible to bagging, an anti-fun strategy.

Mechanically this is possibly THE BEST mario kart, it just has a giant tumor attatched to it called OPEN WORLD.

World is plainly worse than MK8, even ignoring the post release (I mean on the Wii U) content. The problem is going back to MK8 feels hollow too because we've fucking played the shit out of that game for a decade or whatever now.

The fact they turned MARIO KART of all things into a discord fighter is hilarious, its doubly hilarious that the one mode that everyone agrees the segment tracks are ok, Knockout Tour, is also the one mode they put the least amount of effort in and only made 8 variants, instead of the 1 million you could with the concept.

Truly incredible. The knockout tour could have so much variation with, for example, the same starting/ending point but different routes. They don't even need to be procedurally generated. They could just program different checkpoints. Like instead of going East from the start you go West to another track or whatever. There are so few rallies I can't even comprehend it. It seems like the whole mode was just slapped together in a few months.
This game took TEN YEARS to come out. A decade. MKW is bewildering in how little effort seems to have been put into it. It's just mind bending.

Its a dev sinkhole that 10x times the effort put gives back 1x of quality back.

The tracks, while not perfect, were clearly made with the rails and wall riding on mind and it shows, which is why a lot of them are really fun, if there was no effort there than they would feel dull despite the good mechanics.

Yeah the actual racing mechanics are fun as fuck. Doing shortcuts on Airship and ShyGuy Bazaar and Bowser's Castle and a bunch of others is super fun. It takes practice but it isn't crazy impossible either.

it obviously wouldn't since there's a new mode specifically designed to take advantage of the seamless transition between routes called knockout tour (which is woefully underutilized) and the option to just go explore the open world at any time

on the other hand not giving players the option to play 3 laps races "trivializes" all the new mechanics the devs added to the game like charge jumps, wall rides and alternate routes which makes it feel like a giant waste of development resources

You can't, other than Time Trials. A game is more than the sum of its parts. For many, most playtime will be spent in the online mode. Adding a 3 Lap option to the dominant mode means most playtime won't be interfacing with the new central game design. They're just playing a MK8-style Mario Kart experience again. Can you see why the game designers, who worked hard on their new core concept, wouldn't want that?

Sure, but that isn't my problem they did a bad job of showing of their hard work. The worst part of the intermissions is that, with a few exceptions, they don't even showoff the more interesting areas around tracks that you otherwise only interact with in free roam. Not only do I have a worse experience playing online, but the hate they are getting over it will ensure they won't bother making an open world again, which I do enjoy in free roam. The intermission courses simply aren't well designed for racing.

There is an obvious problem if you have to put up barriers to try and make people play the intermission courses. If simply providing an option for people to play the way they want trivializes the game, then maybe the whole game design just doesn't work. At least for me, I'm just not going to play matchmaking when it is 90% time waster, so the end result is still the same where I don't play the new experience except in Free roam where the new experience actually stands out.

Nintendo has this idea that if something took a lot of work, then it should be admired. Imagine you're a painter, and one of your paintings has attracted everyone's attention, but no one cares about the other one. For Nintendo, this is a case of disrespect, and it would take the painting that no one likes and place it in such a way that everyone would be forced to look at it and contemplate it before finally seeing the painting they really want.

An easy fix for the online mode, without adding an explicit 3 Lap mode, is just tacking on an extra Lap to the Routes. Instead of doing 1 lap at the end of each Route, you do 2 or 3.

That satisfies both Nintendo's game designers and lap faggots. YVPSG

mario kart wii feels so good because your driving mattered more. Not 100% but more than 8 and world. You can fail turns and everyone catches up to you, or you can take tighter lines and make time on someone in front. Mario kart world can literally be played with your eyes closed

Compfags REALLY hate not being able to show off their perfect track knowledge and hate how the routes are more about items and randomized elements of the cars. Sometimes you do feel like playing a 3 lap races so that should be an option, but the variety that the routes bring is what the game is really all about.
