I'm starting Ng+ now, which spells are worth using? I didn't bother with any my first run except that Dhutanga circle fire thing for situational aoe stagger

Echo spells are good because they get cheap with a talent (minus one charge per spell); then echo of Lu Bingzhang in particular shines as it has alacrity.
Other than that the fireball spell is another fat damage dealer, and burn is a nice added damage -although not significant mostly-.
Then you have the invisibility and shield ones.
Everything else is mostly meh but that might be my bias, as I generally don't even bother with spells that lack alacrity.

Finished it earlier today after palying the whole game with spears and mainly as a souls, didnt really delve a lot on spells other than for some ranged dmg when the boss flew across the room.
Really enjoyed it, not as good as a souls as LoP but close.
Will run it on NG+ once DLC or whatever releases, other than that i dont see myself running it again without new content, im just in these games for the bosses 's panties

Ethereal form - auto dodge, very good
Echo of Bo Magus - shield bubble, OP as fuck
Divine Blessing - area heal, great for exploration, works for slower bosses too
Echo of Zhao Yun - lightning pillar that's specially made against Inner Demons, besides HP damage it also leaves them shaken so you can wail on them for couple of seconds (shit takes ages to cast though)

I made this recap of the story from what i got off the game and having watched the intro lore video (and reading these threads) but didnt get much traction last thread.

What i got is that Wuchang wants to resurrect her dead younger sister. To do so she goes to her childhouse home to retrieve a tool that her parents used to try to resurrect his toddler brother and fucked it up
She retrieves the tool, unbeknownst to her a piece out of 5 of a more powerful tool but contracts the feathering disease which messes with her memory and starts taking her arm. She loses conscience at some point on the travel back and her companion leaves her in the care of a tao doctor studying the feathering disease.
Game starts
Wuchang helps find information on the feathering disease and its link to the "Bo" people. She learns of the battle that the old deity had with its rival and how he trapped him but now is starting to seep out of his prison which is causing this whole red mercury shit.
Game ends
During the game we sort of learn that trying to ress her sister wuchang is trapped on a cycle by the cryptic boatman, which seems to be some sort of agent of death or grim reaper or whatever. Eventually she is only to break the cycle in 2 of the endings by either going deep into an illusion world in which she ress her sister and lived happily ever after or learning to let go and moving on with her live, sort of taking Fan Zhao as her younger sister surrogate. The other ending shows Wuchang trapped on the cycle and being experimented on by the tao doctor.

Without touching in the "themes" of the videogame thats what i got of the story.

Alacrity is not an automatic dodge itself as there's only a very specific window on the casting animation that has i-frames.
Yes it's very generous compared to regular dodge, but you can fuck it up (and you will if you try to use it in the middle of a 16-hit combo).

Spearveil to Steam Chain backshot combo is just godly against all normal-sized humanoid enemies.

Game isn't clear on how she got feathering but if you watch the outside of game lore video you can make connection that the bai family are descendants of avians. The sword from the video is the bai family heirloom that you start with. The bo sorceress calls you a halfblood. The feathered branch item also says "it resonates with your feathered blood".

The whoe feathering thing isn't a curse as much as people re-awakening their avian blood after they consume red mercury. The red mercury items tells you its unique to land of Shu, land of Shu is where the avians settled down and intermingled with humans. Your average peasant just gets fucked up because they have even less bird blood. The priests get fucked up just like how the big red avian monsters gets fucked up.

The whole story about running into a monster and getting cursed that the taoist tells you is probably bullshit. It's more likely that her feathered blood awakened after using the chisel. The taoist knows that using the chisel can awaken avian blood, it's he who told commander bitch and white consort that the emperor could be resurrected using a chisel.

Can someone explain to me why, in pretty much every single action game, whenever your character is with his back to a wall the camera pushes well in front of him so that he can't be seen? And often so much in front of him that not even whatever he's fighting against can be seen?

The notes on the island say that the taoist wasn't involved in stealing the artifact and resurrecting Bai Kru I think I remember that there was text mentioning the artifact in the Temple Pavilion. The sister dialogue there was "dad knows so much better than the taoist" or whatever. I think the Shu Sanctum Priest was responsible for the Glutton resurrection since his cane thing aludes to it.

In this specific game it's a basic bitch unreal engine camera. I noticed very early on at the shu sanctum that if you keep the camera somewhat low and going down the stairs, it violently bob down after every steps.
It would take work for the devs to manually check for meshes colliders with the camera to turn some surfaces transparent to see what's happening, or turn the camera 180 degrees automatically.
Anyway they didn't playtest the bossfights enough.

i dont rightly remember but Wuchang is looking for these powerful relics like the chisel she has and found one in Tang palace.
When getting it you fight Honglan and with the power of plot armor she ends up taking it. I assume an npc tells you that she has been seen heading that direction.
You might remember the General of the North asking about the chisel too so that makes sense, and once you explore the dungeon after mistress of night you will find out that they were right and Honglan did in fact head in this direction.
I just can't recall if an npc explicitly tells you so

This game was pretty mediocre but I had fun jerking off to it a few times.

Solar leap is also great, it's a fast lunge that instantly converts all your previous spear hits to might at 2:1. It also has a sweep followup that does heavy stagger damage so you can frontal force stagger with a few of them.

The basic R1 string is garbage. The charged R2 is unusable
Hovewer, it still manages to have one of the most functional movesets in the game.
Dodge R1 into R1 produces an insanely powerful stab - slash loop that counts for a final combo attack, which means it grants you skyborn might. They loop, and the character attacks quickly which leands to insanely high DPS and quick mana replenishment.
Uncharged R2 into R1 produces the same effect.
Certain melee spells can combo into R1 and it leads to the combo finisher too.

I've got the backflip lightning down now. Fairly long and easy to see tell for it. The multiple projectiles all overlap to begin with, so they all hit you on the same frame, so you just get one shot if you're close.

Got to second phase a few times, but I don't understand the new lightning attacks yet. He seems to leave AOE thunder, but sometimes I just don't get hit by it, sometimes I do.

With all bosses I've struggled with so far, I seem to do better just going full aggro. My longsword gains power with successing attacks, so I do best just going ape and beating them before I run out of healing and tempers.

You should explore the rooftops around shu temple and past the invisible bridge marked with a stone.
There is a quite big area around there with a lot of loot and eventually an optional boss, that boss drops an item for that taoist lady at the temple that you would want to give to her before giving her the centipede item
no big deal either way as at least this "bricked" quest progresses a bit on a different manner instead of just breaking
