It's not really an extraction shooter, more of a soulslike with really light extraction elements (the only extraction elements present are having to extract from expeditions and very rarely finding items you can extract with). Unlike extraction shooters, the only thing you lose upon dying are witchfire you're carrying. Even then, you can retrieve them if you die so it's got more in common with Souls games.
Game still sucks at the end of the day though. Honestly I feel like the biggest issue is that it revolves heavily around evasion maneuvers where you dodge and then shoot a red orb near an enemy to stagger them. The issue is that it's finnicky as fuck when it wants to work. Initially I figured it was a matter of dodging when an enemy's about to attack but it seems that's wrong. Then I figured it was just a matter of dodging when near an enemy because that's when it seems to work but sometimes it just doesn't work. So basically the best I can figure the evasion system only works when it wants to work.
Also the damage drop off for weapons is ridiculous. It doesn't feel like there's a gradual drop off if you're outside your weapon's effective range. If you're even a few inches outside your weapon's effective range, you're dealing 1 damage.
Enemy spawns are annoying too. The way enemy encounters are generated like half the map can be barren and devoid of enemies with all of them clustered in a really tight area so the moment you trigger one, you trigger multiple and just end up getting completely overwhelmed.
