What's the point of turning a video game into a tabletop/board game? Just play the fucking video game.

I don't understand why somebody would want to experience the game in a way where you have to make sure you aren't breaking any rules and have to set up everything by hand instead of code doing it for you.

The truth is that video game themed board games are nothing like the real video games, it's just a coat of paint on top of a completely original game, having a recognizable IP is just simpler and it's also good for marketing since you'll get numales buying it immediately regardless of the quality of the game just from recognition alone.

bullshit
it is a coat of paint of already existing game mechanics resold and repackaged yet again, with new license
it is equal to all the shitty versions of monopoly and rarely there is something original about them
it is a collector trap for people who don't play boardgames

From what I've it's a re-theme of the cowboy-themed game Bang! where you have a secret role and you take turns equipping items, playing cards and attacking other players while trying to find out who your teammates are so they can work together to fulfill their win condition. Sounds pretty fun but yeah where are you gonna find 4+ 2hufags to play this in the wild lol?

Board games are cheap and easy to make. Just take Catan and give it a different coat of paint. Tabletop games are even easier to make. Just give GURPS/FATE/Apocalypse a new coat of paint and publish a single .pdf, just make sure never to write adventure modules or include intro adventures. Tabletop people just like to hoard games, they almost never play them.

>take Catan and give it a different coat of paint
Settlers of Catan and other European-style games ruined board games. Instead of having a healthy mix of RNG, skill, and cutthroat negotiating, you have games where you can get screwed over halfway in with no path to victory, don't even have the grace of being eliminated, at best you favor which side you want to win (not yourself).

Clue or Uno has way way way way less rules and conditions than Slay the Spire for example. It takes fucking forever to do anything if someone has to deal with the rules and something might still go wrong.

Computer games also enable you to do many mechanics much much more conveniently like in Heartstone when you discover a card doing that irl would mean that you always need to carry a huge set of cards just to enable that feature and then there's class discoveries etc. and shit just gets real fucking messy.

There are Tabletop Simulator threads sometimes but the amount of people playing is swingy to say the least. The problem with board games is that you need to teach the rules to anybody who is new, and ain't nobody got time fo' that

Based choices, anon. Coup is perfect for ruining friendships in under 10 minutes. Sheriff of Nottingham always devolves into accusing your grandma of smuggling crossbows under her blouse. Love Letter is the GOAT of portable games - fits in your pocket and still makes people ragequit. Don't Mess with Cthulhu is underrated, but I swear there's always that one dude who NEVER tells the truth, even when it helps the team.

The only real difficulty with board gaming as a hobby is that you really need to have people who are prepared to learn the rules of a game they're unfamiliar with. It helps if someone's a good teacher, but even with a good teacher some people stubbornly don't want spend 5+ minutes going over the rules before they get to play, they just wanna go go go.
If you've got a group (friends or family) that is willing to learn a new game and accept it into their fold, it's fantastic. Good on your cousin for not only initiating that, but good on your family for having the patience to slow down and enjoy that limited time together over the table. You dont' really need to be social to engage in the hobby (there are plenty of solo games) but you just need to not be terrified of interacting with people for long enough to feel comfortable.
If you're lucky, you have a local game store you might be able to visit to fall into the hobby yourself (avoid the TCGs though, you'll blink and be out hundreds of dollars)
