It has totaly different feel than DF, even though it's success was built on >it's DF but with UI a gud graphixxx (It looks like shit btw ASCII mogs this garbage any day).

Endlessly spawning raiders is lame since they eventually get so hard you just lose

I like Dwarf Fortress more than Rimworld because I appreciate the sheer scale, but Rimworld actually has fucking gameplay and content. Dwarf Fortress doesn't.
My issue with Dwarf Fortress is that it's basically a solved game; enemies can't break or otherwise defeat even basic fortifications, so unless you're a fucking idiot your fort is impenetrable within the first month.
A forgotten beast is always instantly quarantined, raids are always immediately dumpstered, etc.
The fun of dwarf fortress is the dollhouse aspect, but there's no real exciting gameplay.

It's fun the first few weeks. After you've stabilized and all you do is wait around for research/scanner it becomes a slog since everything takes forever.

Literally only fun if you mod in sex + rape + slavery + prostitution, then it becomes a good porn game. Before this? Not really that fun. The central gameplay loop isn't that great, most of the time late-game is spent waiting for shit to finish, early-game is just spent doing the same thing (make oven make fridge make food make farm), mid-game is where the game SHOULD be good, but the raids are either baby raids that do nothing or meganigger raids that drop 4 snipers that one-shot your best colonist in the torso.

There's the other problem, they literally just spawn garbage. A group of raiders attack, and OOPS now you have a whole bunch of rotting corpses your colonists are terrified by, useless clothes, ect.
They really just need to simplify raider loot somewhat - I bet there's a mod for this, but it should be base-game and primitive raiders late-game basically just turn into annoying garbage cans.

i don't get the point of allowing you to play as a tribal if they don't make any content dedicated to this. I tried a tribal run and it was all good until I started getting raided by guys with guns. So I kill them and end up having to use their guns to survive, beating the whole purpose.

Yeah, at the very least there shouldn't be guys with guns raiding tribals unless they're slavers - but tribals should be using guns that they manage to loot, that's what they've done in real life in every single situation it's happened in.
Like unless your tribe is going around raiding people or they're there to take slaves there's no reason for these advanced people with guns to come - what are they gonna do, steal your corn?

Even after adding a ton of mods it gets to a point where it's not fun. Saved for a few specialized runs every one basically goes the same way, with the same progression track. I got almost 8000 hours and even odyssey didn't bring me back.

They give a reason to caravan now. Whats not fun about caravanning is when you show up to the location and you have to play 'where is the last enemy hidden in the cave labyrinth' and 'Why are my pawn suddenly having major breaks risks? I just showed up' then you learn they got -30 mood penalty total because they are wet, its dark, they saw one of the 100 corpses on the map, the environment is ugly, and they have no recreation. Its annoying because it turns into a speed run before you have 5 sad wanderers wasting your time.

i think i outplayed it after 1k+ hours. i feel like not enough happens and i fucking hate the good old lolz random bs that goes on in western games. Like everything has to be on some obscure d20 system with a 5% or catastrophic failure for everything. 15 in shooting? here go miss 4 sniper shots in a row and get your ass eaten by a beaver.

The visuals kill whatever fun people claim is to be had with this game. Sure you can do tons of shit but it does not mean much when the visuals are so lazy and boring looking. Should have put more work into improving the look of the game than releasing unnecessary expansions.

I feel like the game would be more fun if pawns were allowed to think for themselves more, kind of like they are fully autonomous with you still having the ability to influence what they do or out right make them do it.
but i think it would be interesting to watch a fully autonomous pawn group go from nothing to something

So far the things I don't like:
Raids aren't determined by enemy strength or location, they are simply willed into existence.
Natives have a permanent research speed debuff instead of a deficit to overcome.
Properly equipped soldiers are barely enough to overcome the numbers disadvantage against poorly equipped rabble.
Certain things, like Neutroamines, are never ever craftable even if your colony has bullshit scifi tech despite being supposedly essential to industrial era medicine.

Oh, yeah, this sucks. I think veteran players are just used to keeping their pawns high as fuck on a Fear and Loathing suitcase at all times to offset mood management.

There's a mod that splits tech into eras and lets you advance into the next era once you research enough of your latest era's tech. But that still gets you into the issue of the raiders eventually coming at you with guns, so you can't have a "real" primitive to sci-fi playthrough

Odyssey has been fun imo. Lots of silly stories so far.
