I think there are 20 if you get literally all of them. But every guide that says you need all 20 in one playthrough is wrong I think. I'm sure I missed a couple in Worship's Rise I couldn't get back to afterwards but then I killed 2 in NG+ that I had definitely killed before and the achievement popped then.

How does it clash with their other ideas exactly? For instance, the Commander boss you want to use clashes or deflect against her. Yet most of the bosses before her are monster type bosses you can't use those mechanics against. You've probably made a build to deal with those bosses. Now the game tells you about designing your build to fight the Commander. The next few bosses you can deflect against until you get to the magic hag where you'll want to spec probably into pure damage again and rely on dodging. The only boss I feel doesn't work too well with this is Bride, and that's because phase 1 is a weapon boss but phase 2 is a monster boss, so you can't properly account for both. She's really easy though so it doesn't matter too much.

It requires timing but is very generous, the spell that anon is referring however is very safe to use because not only it uses alacrity, but the casting animation happens in the air, which makes you untouchable to almost all melee attacks by almost every single enemy in the game.

If you were to use another spell with alacrity but that happens in the ground, like for instance, fireballs, you would quickly discover that even though alacrity is a very generous dodge, you can fuck it up and get faceplanked (like for instance if you just use it in the middle of a long combo thinking you're invulnerable).

But this game has free transmog because souls players love the idea of fashionsouls. Not to mention the frostbite area is already the only area in the game that has that kind of environmental hazard. It would be ridiculous and a waste of manhours to design a mechanic that is only relevant for half the level. Frostbite is already negligble as it is because you can also completely ignore it by going through the mines instead and in cloudspire city, it becomes a nonissue altogether. Frankly they should have made frostbite deal DoT damage instead of just a stamina decrease but eh. I'm sure people will complain either way.

When you enter the room, walk back, not forward. She changes moveset if you get closer. She will always start with the 3 slashes. Before she lunges, time a forward dodge and charge for the backstab. I found the fight easier without the summon to learn patterns.
