I'm playing it for the first time and I think it's so good. It takes me back to Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie on the N64. It reminds me of Sonic Adventure at times. Probably the most reminiscent of Donkey Kong 64 however. I just got to new donk city, the game keeps getting better and better. Probably my number 2 Mario game now. What do you think of it?

I agree with you, it's really fun and soulful.

+Went back to open world style of 64 and Sunshine
+Got some cool moments
+Movement is pretty good

-Mario is kind of gay in this game
-The environments are kind of gay in this game
-Most of the levels are empty with barely any enemies or platforming

>dude what if we made a collectathon but it's just moons and they're just there every 10 steps

encouraging exploration and giving the game a ton of non-linearity, you dont even get drop kicked out of the level after each one

Its really bad. It starts out alright but I distinctly remember when I got to the tropical island world that I was literally begging for the game to be over. There's just too many moons and after a while it just feels tedious. I understand the argument that you're not supposed to collect all the moons but it seems like a cop out...I should want to collect them all, not be given a reason why its ok not to.

Yep, it is excellent. I don't understand how you could not like it. Its like the purest vidya there is.

Fun game but the artstyle is kinda gay. The dragon boss fight was lame and cappy never does anything as cool as be a trex again after the first level. Game felt unfinished to me

Probably my favorite 3D Mario. My only complaint is that the soundtrack isn't quite as good as the Galaxy games outside of Jump Up Superstar and the Cascade Kingdom theme.

it gets better as it goes actually, hitting its stride at new donk city

I despised how in 64 and Sunshine you had to re-enter levels after each star, so Odyssey was a huge improvement for me.

Levels differ wildly in quality. Both water levels and postgame areas suck. The focused stranded jungle island was by far the best one.

Every time i see people praise a nintendo game it‘s mixed with nostalgiafaggotry. Makes sense that i can‘t get into them since i wasn‘t a nintendo kid

I loved the first water level, I am hoping there's another one

literally playing it for the first time though, second only to Mario 64 which I still play online from time to time

The game design is just superior bro. Odyssey only uses 3 buttons but the ways you can control Mario are vastly varied and satisfying to link together.

The unimportant moons are just to encourage you to look at and observe the stages from every possible angle and perspective. Which is good.
Can such a thing be achieved in other ways? Sure. But it's actually kind of a failure of the genre with how many games don't actually ask that of the player at all.
Odyssey with its moons does and that's a good thing.

Yes, I feel like people will remember Odyssey the same way we remember 64
