americano being watered down espresso is so funny to me, because it's so strangely accurate and also paradoxically against what you'd perhaps expect. We've always valued volume but the fact that it's watered down so much seems so strange. Personally I always like to adulterate my coffee with milk and I'm a sucker for mocha, but just making it dark but watered down is so funny to me.

A latte is true neutral amount of steamed milk and a decent amount of foamed milk. A flat white is maxxed steamed milk and minimal to none foamed milk. This also corresponds to their weight at the same volume. A cappuccino weighs the lightest, then the latte, then the flat white is heavier than a latte.

People who order flat whites are usually clueless motherfuckers who equate weight to amount of caffeine they are consuming. Their origin story usually involves some shitty barista making a borderline capp out of an ordered latte and they ended up with "half" a drink when the large air bubbles collapsed.

Real ones drink cortados. If you want a latte amount of steamed milk skip the espresso and just get a steamed milk and espresso separate. You'll enjoy both more.

Milk both gives thicker texture, taste, as well as cools down the coffee. It's why epresso + milk is workers morning coffee. Americano, the ones I have tried, taste very bland. And the ones my American friends make are borderline transparent.
Personally I drink like double espresso + (usually oat)milk from a coffee mug as my morning coffee to get gaming and gooning going. Good Cappuccino or Mint Latte are best tho, but more of drinks you *enjoy* or chat with someone.

Drink what you drink, but americano is yearly fifa release of coffees.

I worked in a coffee shop for a long time, it was a pretty good gig while it lasted. I became an espresso fiend but I've left that all behind me. I still can appreciate a good latte or capp once in awhile. If it's a spot with quality espresso though, I'll have just a double shot with a small splash of water to cool it down.
