I was really excited to have multiple SA-X on the screen at once like the original game only implied but it's just not fun, which is probably the same thought the Fusion devs had at the time too even if the hardware could support it. Also the dialogue is ESL shit. I'll get back to it eventually but I'm disappointed.

It's tolerable on its own, it's just not great. Metroid was forever tainted by some of the changes they made in Prime, which haven't translated well to the 2D formula but they shove them in anyway. Just parries alone forces you to play in a completely different and not fun way.

It's not perfect, there's definitely some tedious bits that super had to finish ironing out but it nails it's premise. the descent into an increasingly alien cave system and facing the escalating threat of the evolved metroids is what the game delivers, no bs or abstraction.

Don't play this, at least not right now. It's incredibly poorly balanced and full of poor design choices which is a shame because there are a lot of fun custom made elements in it. I like the idea behind it and there are lots of fun, original moments but it's all gatekeeped behind bullshit.

Several speedrunners with thousands of hours in these games including other romhacks have said the same thing. It's just not fun to constantly die to trial and error gameplay, even the more recent patch to nerf the damage doesn't change how obnoxious it all generally is to constantly be getting hit by attack patterns that aren't telegraphed very well. There are parts with checkpoints that restart you in the room you just died which exposes how the developer obviously playtested the thing with save states.

I somehow managed not to get lost when I played this game, maybe I was lucky but it was incredibly satisfying, Samus Returns felt like nothing by comparison, the remake should've been sprite based and more in line with Zero Mission minus extra endings sequences.
