Fuck you, that's a disingenuous argument. Redditbirth is one of those kinds of games where the majority of shit is locked behind the absurd amounts of filler. If you don't do the sidequests, you're not gonna get much useful Materia or weapons or SP. It's mandatory in all but name.

That's the second entry, you really have no excuse or get to act surprised about its game design being shit.

i prefer the term "still birth" because it's reflected in the sales. This is pretty much an unmitigated DISASTER for Square. FF7 remake series came out and it's just a total dud and no one cared.

You can go back and engage with it at your leisure. Additionally, you can see Chadley's inventory the moment you enter a zone.
Acquire the currency for the materia you're interested in, and move on if you're not feeling motivated.
I was a huge fan, and was constantly switching teams with different leaders on each party setup. My biggest complaint is Cloud being forced on the team until you beat the game.

you have a direct comparison to games like FF7. everything in that game is so fast, responsive, uninvasive, the pacing and freedom is almost perfect. no ubisoft towers or other chadley bullshit. no slogfest of slow, clunky tasks, slow interactsion, slow scripted events, slow cutscenes.
there's a blue print right there that is basically perfect and 1000x faster than demake and shitbirth.

then you have KH1 & KH2 as perfect examples of how to do ARPGs. those are also fast, responsive and slog-free. no ubisoft, modern sidequest bullshit in those.

the 7R series is just an amalgamation of the worst examples of filler and modern design cancers ever.

bullshit the materia you need to finish the game on normal you literally get on the story path and shops at all times i know because i didnt on my first playthroud do any optional shit.
All the optional stuff is truly optional and all the materia you get on the hardest optional stuff is so you can get trhough hard mode.
