Speaking of, I recently became an xchad again. I have no interest in wow though. I played it before burning crusaders came out when I was like 13 and then never since. It always felt like a lesser version of final fantasy 11 imo.

I cancelled my sub this month but still paid through August so this will be my last month subbed until the expansion comes out. They're trying really hard but lack the talent and vision to make a compelling game and it feels like a lot of these decisions are being made by corporate project managers who don't play video games and didn't play classic. I'll give midnight a chance if the hype is real but at this point WoW is an empty shell of what it used to be. It's just too watered down and made by a bunch of people who aren't actually nerdy enough to make a good MMO.

this "content release" is one of the reasons I stopped playing. The whole time it felt like a mobile game cutscene and I just wanted it to be over so I could mentally check it off and feel like I was up to date on the content. Dragonflight stabilised the game after the damage Shadowlands did, if Dragonflight was indeed bad that genuinely could've knocked wow off the number one spot but they gained players, that doesn't happen in a bad expansion

Dragonflight is similar to MoP in the sense it's a good expansion with a lame theme so lots of people wrote it off at face value, those who actually played know how good it was

the vibe is just way too "optimized now" where it feels like the blizz exec team is sitting in meetings where they're meticulously calculating how they can maximize the amount of hours they can squeeze out of people with the lowest effort content. ALL of the content that comes out now feels like it's just bullet points on some power point at blizz HQ. Like fucking siren's isle and dastardly duo's. It's just fluff and filler content designed to create the illusion of things to do in the game, meanwhile everyone hates it and treats it like the chore it is. WoW is dead.

People can say WoW is dead but if you look at this, details, the most popular WoW addon, has been downloaded over 60 million times FOR RETAIL, NOT INCLUDING CLASSIC since war within launched, obviously people will update their addons with each patch etc, but also not everyone uses details, I don't personally

it's not, it's just the least bad MMO and it costs too much to make MMOs so they have no real competition. WoW is probably the quintessential mid game that people play because they have nothing better to do, and it has the most players, so more people gravitate towards it because they want to play with other people. MMOs are unique in that everyone only wants to play one, and they want to play the biggest one because it seems to be the most relevant and the one worth investing the most time in, so it makes it not worth it to make a competing MMO. The genre is stuck in a black hole of mediocrity and apathy

I gave up on Blizzard a long time ago.

And I'll know if and when I'll be willing to give Retail World of Warcraft another chance, because I suspect Blizzard announcing that they're doing a hard reset on the setting and taking it back to around the Warcraft RTS games and also reversing decades of gameplay decisions to refocus on trying to make the game more of a big online D&D world that was closer to the original vision for the "themepark" MMORPG will generate quite a bit of buzz.

Blizzard will never be good again. Metzen might make it a little better but the majority of the company is incompetent corpos like PirateSoftware who have zero interest in crafting a good experience. Even if they wanted to, they are not the team to do it.
