Tempering enhances certain weapons to make their effects more potent. Those weapons will say as much. You can get more tempering charges in the skill tree and there's a needle later that increases the duration. People mostly use fire or leech. Practically everything is weak to fire and anything that is resistant to it is not resistant enough.

It's a decent buff with the right acupuncture needle bonuses + benedictions for your build, some weapons also have specific tempering bonuses. As an example Fire Tempering with the 2handed Flamebringer sword makes the L1 with skyblow charges do huge amounts of damage if enemy doesn't resist fire (almost nothing does) and you can buff it further with various stuff like benedictions, pendants and that one spell that boosts damage of your next attack etc. to the point you can kill some late game bosses in 3-4 L1 swings if timed right.

This bitch on paper should be harder than Commander Honglan but I beat her in a few tries first playthrough just by parrying what could be parried and dodging the rest. One of the few bosses where the hitboxes are insanely forgiving that you just dodge into her to avoid everything she does. Never ever dodge backwards, but that's pretty much a hardrule for the game in general. On second playthrough I found out she's vulnerable to frostbite and just spammed that frost skull spell to kill her as she's one of the few enemies that resist fire and burning her takes too much effort if she never chills.

Descent into the corpse factory and have sex with the bride, cucking the queen's son

Chapter 3:
it's literally just Zenwhu temple the forest is all optional side content.

Chapter 4:
Worship's Rise but backwards and 70% of it is optional

Chapter 5:
The bone pits lots of bones everywhere and more about the spectacle of watching the two factions of birds fighting each other.

all the newer soulslike is just combat. the level design is trash...khazan, lies of P, etc. linear corridors and trash mobs whose sole purpose is to pad tie between boss fights. Souls games are all about exploration, not just having the flashiest boss fights. i feel like I'm living in a different dimension when I say Lies of P and Khazan are mid.

Black Myth Wukong is probably your best bet. Funnily enough it's advertised as a boss rush but the level design and exploration are top-notch

Overall the level design for the game is great but Bo Palace is gay as fuck. They went all in on bullshit enemies with excessive HP and infinite stamina attack strings that just turns every other encounter into a fucking chore. Also constant ambushes or attempts to knock you of cliffs (or bait you into dodging off by mistake). Easily the worst area in the game. Zenwhu Temple with the Despair bullshit was annoying too but Bo Palace just has nothing good going for it other than frustration.

Lies of P is definitely harder than Wuchang, and I don't think Wuchang is even all that hard. It has some questionable overtuned bosses in some places (Honglan and Night Mistress in particular) and cheap combo strings but armor matters a lot to make things a lot more forgiving than it seems. Bai Kru also has way too much HP for whatever reason. Super easy fight but I think he might have the most hp of any boss in the game, way more than Vermillion Feathers Honglan and the final boss despite being fought in Ch3 vs. Ch4/5.

There's a needle that makes it last 90 seconds instead of 60 also you can cast it 3 times once upgraded.
Look closely at the weapons.
Same get extra advantage from certain tempering types like Flamebringer longsword for example.
Then you pair with right Benefictions, like extra damage when enemy gets Burn status and now you melt everything in seconds.
Made Dragon Emperor bossfight a cinch for me.

It is when fire tempered. The attached disciple gets upgraded to do heavy burn damage and fires multiple projectiles than can hit larger enemies multiple times, quite literally melting them.

The thing is she can do it immediately after any of her moves so she can catch you with it after forcing you to dodge her kick or if you tried to sneak in an attack during her frost attack. It's one of my major gripes with the game how bosses seem to randomly have no delay or recovery from slow attacks if you try to attack them during them, Mistress with purple balls is one of the worst offenders of that bullshit.

Probably my main gripe with the game. The feather system on paper is neat. But if you can land combos on a boss that keeps dodging you, you are out of juice for most of the and just playing it like dark souls.
On the other hand, there is a way to farm those plant things that give you max feathers. In the invoke menu, you can buy 1 for 20% madness. You can buy all 5, become a demon, then just buy 2 madness cleansing items from wugang for 5000 mercury. Rinse and repeat.

It's hard to decide because the boss is hard but then you discover that you can fish out backstab and it becomes doable. I guess bo sorcerer was the hardest for me because I had trouble backstabbing her so I just ended up summoning gendalf on her second phase to backsrab her more easily. Tiger in second place because he kept one shotting my ass

You know, after playing the game for about 71 hours. I've never crashed. With other UE games, I'd usually crash every now and then but this game ran really well besides some frame drops going between areas. I don't really understand how people have been crashing or having performance issues.

Reminder that if you're just starting the game hitting early +5 nodes in other weapon specs is extremely valuable because it's not only more efficient but also because your offensive stats are also your defensive stats. Weapon scaling stats cap at 50 (on the lotus display) and vitality hard caps at 100 total (for a bit under 1900 HP)

Personally I dont think it was a good idea to plan the early level this way. Mercury shop was an absolute shitfest and that's with me realizing I should put on some Corruption gear. After killing Lu Bingzhang, I opened the underground too. However, with the corruption buildup I decided to go check other areas I noticed but didn't explore. Then, when I had no other choice but to go underground, I went that way. Also, you don't even need corruption gear. That first walkway if you just walk in the middle, you won't get corrupted. You can literally avoid the corruption everywhere else. Even getting the items in the corruption fog won't corrupt you even without the resistance. There's an item that looks like you'd get corruption if you start walking towards it but if you walk in the middle, you won't get corruption at all. Mercury Shop is a literal non-issue if you have a functioning brain. Not only that, you get a lot of Camellia

Before getting the discipline mastery set of benedictions which are too strong to really ignore, I used a benediction that gave 1 might per enemy kill just so I'd always have a full stock when running into an elite while exploring so I could start with rampage. Eventually you just learn to hit your combo finisher, even if it means using whiffed hits to close distance instead of running up and starting the combo at melee. I think as long as your 2nd and 3rd hits land, you can combo infinitely. It also helps to know that your combo loops back to the 2nd hit instead of the first if you keep it going after the 4th hit, and some skills like rampage and earthshatter will actually skip to the 3rd combo hit after using them. I think Empyrean axe skill also does it, and makes for an easier way to just constantly be in a boss's face.

Your only real cockblock is bosses constantly dodging out of attacks, and you have to learn to recognize when it fucks up your infinite stamina shenanigans so you can back off and regen before starting again.

That was hard! Well I am done with this game. I failed every quest, missed 3 optional bosses and got jarred because of course. Who plays with a 100% guide the fist playthrough. If they make dlc and add more build variety I'll do a second playthrough.

The ones that give you damage bonuses for having 3, 6, and 9 discipline skills unlocked. Together they form a set that also buffs damage for having 12 discipline skills unlocked, and everything added up results in about a 50-60% damage buff. I don't know how good the individual ones are, and you won't complete the set until pretty late in the game, but I don't think much else can compete when it's complete. You get more of the currency than you need thanks to the storyteller giving you a few, and the achievement is to kill 20 rather than find all of them, so early into Ng+ it will pop while killing repeats.

I also missed a single shrine on my first playthrough because I forgot to go back to where you fight honglan because there's nothing there anyway, and that achievement popped as soon as I triggered that shrine on Ng+.

I know it sucks to change gear to deal with a boss, but this game 100% expects you to do so.

Alright, I just finished my 6th playthrough. Damn I hate how tanky the final boss is on NG+2.
I can confirm 100% though, that the only thing you need to do for the good ending is He Youzai and Fang Yao's quests. You do not need to answer the riddle door at all, nor fight the demon of obsession. Since both He Youzai and Fang Yao generally show up on the main path, the only things you need to do/not do are:
1) Avoid bricking questlines by going to Cloudspire first before Mt. Zhenwu
2) Actually start Fang Yao's quest. I think this is where most people go wrong, since it is missable and needs you to have gotten an item that is right by a shortcut earlier in that zone
3) Talk to Fang Yao first before He Youzai when you return to Reverent Temple. This is because she will give you the final item needed to finish his quest, otherwise he won't give you the item needed to get the good ending.
4) Don't give the chisel to the Taoist.

Anyone had any success with elemental weapon builds? I tried to make use of the fire axe since that lets you apply burn & corruption with one weapon. But every elemental option I've tried seems inferior to just focusing on physical attack and things like the damage increased when you know X amount of discipline gems.
