This annoys some people, but I actually really liked how much more dynamic this makes mining.
in my world, I've got three different levels that I go to. Iron, Gold, and Diamond.
I have to plan out my torch materials before going to mine because for the Diamond and Gold layers, I can't find coal to make more.
The optimal spot for coal isn't even always below ground. It encourages you to go out in mountains and caves to find it all.

It's not much, but it's better than getting down to y-11 and strip away.

Finding diamonds is only fun for the first time. I'd say the dream that most people think about is getting a chest full of diamonds, and even then, that doesn't really amount to much.
If you REALLY play minecraft, then you know that creating cool shit or dumb structures is the fulfilling aspect of Minecraft. And you need a lot of blocks for that.

I disagree completely,

1. Over detailed, it's the modern minecraft armor for the modern minecraft, Still looks like fat rolls.
2. Looks even more visually cluttered when enchanted, and the enchantment visuals clash far more on it than diamond
3. Black is overrated and takes itself too seriously, it's as boring as if you made Carbon Fiber your BiS.

I tried to like minecraft, I really did. I tried to play it with my brother when I was younger and he would always just immediately get diamonds not even 15 mins in because he had the tranny optimizations memorized and then he would come back while I was decorating or exploring or something with full diamond and I just couldn't be bothered to play for more than 30 minutes after that. If I was playing by myself I would think about designing some building and then look at the amount of random crap I would have to grind just to get the blocks and items I wanted and just quit. It's not fun. It's never been fun. I remember being furious when they added jungles in 2014 because of the crappy spawns and I never looked back, except one time when some buddies of mine wanted to try a server a couple years ago; I decided to try making some redstone farms or whatever but after a few hours of grinding me and my wife just gave up on it. I even deleted my microsoft account this year completely forgetting it was tied to my minecraft account and I just cannot care about it. Minecraft is so shitty, and it always has been.

It does have better defense, specifically better damage reduction than diamond. Think of it like percentage based damage reduction, the stronger the attack you receive the more effective netherite armor is than diamond armor. I remember it being posted here when it was still a browser game that only had creative mode and thought "yeah building stuff's neat I guess" and forgot about it until it blew up a few months later. I've tried getting into it a dozen times and every time I bounce off it. It'd be easy to write it off as just a "not for me" thing but at this point it's basically a cultural institution and I always feel awkward talking to some of my younger (mid 20's) friends that grew up on it and being simultaneously more and less knowledgeable about it than them.

Honestly just play with keepitems on and you will enjoy the game a lot more. Add some mod that punishes you for dying like temporarily losing max health or damaging your gear. The base game is not really balanced for losing all your items every time you die.

Reduced air exposure still means that a medium sized cave has an entire stack of diamonds spread over it that you don't even need to mine for since you can just look around to spot it all.
