Parry slop shouldn't be in a shooter to begin with. Neither should the variable difficulty sliders which paradoxically sucks out all the difficulty the devs themselves could've put in when at any time you can play on the "hardest" preset than turn all the sliders down. Or removing the glory kills. You know, that thing that the new doom games are practically built around?

Way too much boring story where nothing cool happens thankfully you can skip them, too many padding sections that aren't fun and too much focus on parrying. A shit ton of enemies devolve into just standing there pressing parry and then shooting them. The worst part aside from the shit forced padding sections is that the first third of the game is baby mode with comically low enemy density.
Its not utterly horrible but its not nearly as fun as eternal and 2016 and its way overpriced for what it is.

Short version is that parry mechanics can encourage passive or otherwise overly defensive play that becomes too powerful a strategy if the parry rewards too much for each success. Case and point For Honor on launch had this issue where if a player was proficient with the parry mechanic, was going to win simply because their defense was too strong to get past. Even light attacks could be parried and would lead to a free heavy or possibly into a full combo depending on the class. Or the old Lord of the Rings action games, a single "Bane of" could allow you to stand in the middle of a group of enemies and slowly pick them off instantly with a single well timed parry.

Parry mechanics aren't good for shooters as they're generally meant to be played on a more active and often aggressive manner. Mobility is your primary means of protection, your health and armor is more of a bar for mistakes you can make.

I liked Dark Ages the most of the three modern games. Eternal's spastic arena-fixation makes most of the levels blend together for me. Dark Ages has some needless shit in it (the dragon, the weird turret sections at the beginning, most of all the mech) but the actual meat of the level design is more engaging and does a better job with combat encounter synergy. I like Eternal, for the record, but even something like Turbo Overkill found a better balance with its ADHD arena slaughter than Eternal for my tastes.

Ive been playing on controller at 140 speed nightmare and im on the last level, and honestly it started wearing out its welcome starting at lvl 17. There are no new enemy types and only 2 real bosses for 5 whole chapters. I think they should have deleted the 4 dragon and 4 robot segments and just added more late game content cause this is trash.

Overall the game is way too easy even on controller with 75 percent damage, 140-150 speed - screen clearing shield, parries do aoe damage etc. I can't imagine how bored Eternal players felt playing this. The story is also inferior compared to Eternal somehow, things just happen without proper transitions.

Overall 7/10, its that high only because it feels different from the other entries and it's relatively fun using the controller.

I played Doom Eternal this year for the first time since 2020 and gotta be honest, it's not quite as good as i remember. It still starts off strong but by the time the last mission and the final boss come around, i was definitely ready for it to end. The formula for that game gets kinda tedious over the course of the campaign, and yeah the marauders don't help.

From what i've heard about this game i honestly think i might enjoy it more than Eternal but i really don't know if it's worth my time or money at the moment. And fuck gamepass.

This was it for me. I couldn't swap weapons fast enough so I just stayed on 2 most of the game. Even in 2016 I naturally used more variety without resorting to quick swap combos. Using rockets on Mancubi and then turning to shotgun an imp, etc. In TDA I just used SSG and Chainshot for most of the game. There is no incentive to upgrade other weapons so there is no incentive to explore for secrets either. Lack of glory kills to speed up the game didn't even matter because they slowed it down in other ways.

I prefer Doom 3 over TDA and Eternal. 2016 is closer to Doom 3's tone/atmosphere/flow, but lacked the darkness of the earliest games. Didn't need to go fully Doom 3 Duct Tape Mod, but I would have liked it if there were fewer areas with sterile white walls and floors with fluorescent lights. Hell was a bright orange place, less creepy and more Martian, so it felt like it didn't distinguish itself from the Mars levels. The entire NuDoom felt like Hell was less of an unknowable dimension and more of just... a place on a map.

Doom 3 is objectively better than TDA. Zoomer Doom is fine, I don't even hate it, I just compare how the old games I still play measure up. When I went from Doom 2 to Doom 3 I was AMAZED by the lighting and atmosphere feeling like what DOS Doom was trying to pull off. It had great sound and great movement. Running through the UAC with a chainsaw is still my favorite part of Doom, and I hate how what was considered just as iconic as the BFG is kind of treated like a reload button before being dropped entirely in TDA. Chainsaw-Only runs are still some of my favorite things to do in Doom. I still resent the new games for dropping this.

Whether it is easier or better is completely irrelevant. It is a core game mechanic same with headshotting some of the grunts demons, same with stunning the fucking marauder so on and so forth. Hearing the cartoon sounds sucks dick, you know it, I know it, everyone fucking knows it. And it isn't just the sounds. It's not even bad. It's just fucking boring. The enemy design is bland. Most of the guns are bland. The music is SHIT. The story is fucking lame. The level design is basic as shit to accommodate 2D parry gameplay. You have a giant robot to pilot and a fucking dragon to fly around on and instead of these being highlights they're the worst part of the game. That pain elemental just threw a lost soul. They are locked in place during the attack animation. The second one doesn't do anything because it is faltered from the ssg blast. The falter failed on the first one which is why it was able to attack. Faltering is strong and can prevent enemies from moving or doing anything, but you have to keep in mind that in Doom you are fighting multiple enemies, so you won't be able to falter them all the time.
