Having not read anything about this and going purely by the headline:

The current AAA vidya industry is a cesspool of unoriginality and soullessness and this is only becoming more true due to the Chinese and South Koreans coming in.

Death Stranding is not my kind of game. I have not played it. But there's no denying it and the sequel are soulful games with true passion and creative spark behind them. That's something 99% of the AAA industry can't claim.

Having said all that, it sounds like Kojima is an indielet. Vidya is still alive and well with the lower budgets.

You have not played it. There's nothing soulful or original about it. It's just your standard open world with the same assets everywhere looking like all the other open worlds. The gimmick of "people must help each other by building ladders and bridges" doesn't even exist. You never build to help others, you build your own shit and the game copy pastes it for you for a while. Sometimes there's a convenient bridge, most of the time there isn't. You don't really care nor expect them.

The setting is interesting, the story is nonsensical as usual with kojimbo but it's entertaining. I like the game, but it's really nothing special. I just like chilling in the emptiness

Kojima doesn't realize that modern AAA gaming is boring BECAUSE of him, too many people were influenced by Metal Gear's movie-like storytelling which lead to everyone making movieslop "games" with barely any gameplay. Controversial as it may be, Metal Gear and the stealth genre as a whole were never fun, they're barely above visual novels as "games".
