Strive or Granblue? Which is less shit and/or more alive in 2025?

I can't stand Strive's gameplay. I've never dropped an entire series as hard as Guilty Gear because of how bad Strive is.

You should just play Street Fighter, but between the two it's Granblue on both counts, especially if you want to avoid tranny groomers.

Strive is the better designed fighter, but /v/ will tell you that game is worse than Satan's asshole stench because Jam got a redesign. Is it a step down from previous GG games? Definitely, but at least Strive doesn't have balance as horrendous as what Granblue has, isn't as brainless as Granblue, nor does it have any universal mechanics nearly as busted as 66L. GG was designed for people who enjoy all the modern fighting game tropes, GB was designed for people that don't like fighting games.

Strive also has more players, any anon that tells you GB has a large population is straight up lying to your face, and (somehow) has less lobby problems than Granblue, but both games are shit at that because they use those stupid chibi/avatar arcade station lobbies instead of anything functional. The only real aspects GB has over GG is that there are more coomer focused designs in the game (remember that Granblue is a gacha series first) and it's F2P with an exploit that I think still works for unlocking the entire roster. Otherwise Granblue is a way shittier fighting game than Strive, but imo both aren't that great anyways and you'd be better off trying something else.

The actual best modern fighting game right now is Fatal Fury. But Reddit hates the game because SNK is owned by Saudis and Ronaldo is in the game, and /v/ hates it because it doesn't have SF6 steamchart numbers.
But neither side actually has shit to say about the gameplay because it blows everything else out of the water in that category. Which one should I play if im legit completely new to fgs?
I like the visual aspect of both, and as far as I know both of them stay away from minutes-long anime combos, which I also like.

GBVSR is designed for complete babies so that's the easier one to get into. Although I don't think it will give you nearly as good of a grasp on the fundamentals of the genre.

Not saying you should play SF6 though, just saying that you might want to practice with a more traditional fighter on the side if you want to explore other games in the genre.

I frankly wouldnt try to “get into” any fighting game without some friends to play with these days. Learning by watching youtube vids and reading guides while waiting dozens of minutes for matches against laggy randos that body you and teach you nothing will eventually make you good at the game but is total ass to experience. Find a buddy, pick whichever game hed rather play, and play with him until you start getting cocky and have the fundies down. Theeeeen its worth putting up with the millions of foibles of online play to seek more and greater opponents.

(Also, i put 30 hours into strive before realizing i hated it, havent tried that GB game.)

Granblue is better for a new player since it is just anime super turbo. The universal mechanics are simple and easy to understand and it's not super fast. Guilty Gear is bloated with mechanics with a lot of them being bandaid fixes for balance decisions. In Granblue when you want to block you just block. The worst you have to worry about is will the attack be high or low.

Blocking in Guilty gear has. Normal Block, Instant Block, Faultless Defense, And Instant Faultless Defense. If you dont understand all of them and how to use them against every character you can just get absolutely fucked in never ending pressure until you die.

All Granblue has to do is to nerf the universal mechanics and the game would be perfect. Even the most bullshit characters in the game would lose to any good players if not for 66L, BC and Meter refund.
Unfortunately, they've been listening to Strivers that only play in Training mode and say that Versus is boring, so that will never happen.

strive is high damage, very flashy a lot of the time and honestly pretty easy to understand at a very basic level without doing gimmicky "more accessible bro" shit like modern inputs. nta but this is only going to happen if you try to play something really old and niche like if you tried to play KOF2002UM online. If you go into Strive or GB right now I guarantee you can find some people that are just as dogshit at the game as (You) are, that's what ranked (and Strive's shitty tower) is for.
You might also get bodied if you go into casual mode, but you shouldn't be shocked that you may get paired up with a 1000+ hour killer if you willingly enter the mode where rank isn't considered when matchmaking.

If youre willing to put up with Fightcade, SF3 gets matches within seconds, Heritage for the Future also is pretty alive on the same platform. other than that its honestly pretty dire. Skullgirls died and then killed itself on purpose after dying, and plenty of decent games just dont have any online players anymore. I see it as a refuge from the overemphasized offense and gimmicky retardation of every other modern fighter. Of course they wouldn't go back to the declining games they fled to Granblue from or else they wouldn't have switched to it in the first place, but it's also basic enough that there's little reason for a vet to play it if you can tolerate begging on Discord, which obviously no one does.

He's very in your face, but his movement is below average, since he's an old man. However, you got some tools to force yourself in and then just be endlessly plus and pummeling them into submission. Soriz is a very fun character.

He's pretty easy to use, but is slower than what you'd expect than the average rushdown. Once you're in however, you just keep looping plus on block bullshit and frametraps.
