Why did the first person puzzler genre die?

Too "unexciting" by itself. You can add puzzle elements in to your 2D or 3D action game and have both worlds.

they keep on insisting on putting music puzzles in games and putting information you need for one puzzle on the other side of the map and making you spend a long time walking or going through loading screens.

It got revived again by Portal.
Peaked with Talos Principle.

Then it was butchered by the modern Pajeet x Facebook crowds.

It's okay, starts out very strong but at like the halfway point it becomes very tedious. Puzzles just take needlessly long to do, not because they're difficult but because the way they are designed. So testing out solutions and figuring things out just becomes a drag

Fireproof just put out Ghost Town, and they have 5 Room games. Blue Brain has the House of Da Vinci and House of Tesla games. They're still around.

Anonymous No.717256479
>>717248204 (OP)
It didn't it's just niche and very few games get released.
It's also hard to make good puzzle games hence shit like Myst having bullshit puzzles int he first place that even point and click games like Kings Quest struggle with just not being nonsense.
Anonymous No.717256681 >>717259259

It never existed, always was a niche genre. You talk about Myst or whatever but when you look at sales it's shit. Talos Principle might be the biggest modern puzzle game and it's still niche with a peak of 7000 players

Myst was the best selling PC game ever until being dethroned by the Sims by the mid 2000s. It wasn't niche by any means.

Myst 3 was pretty good actually, Myst 4 had some interesting puzzles but it's not as good.
The only true Myst 3 is in fact URU. Ubisoft just wanted their piece.

because you niggers just dont get it. you have to go back to a time when the ability to explore a detailed digital environment was a novelty in and of itself. there are millions of niggers right now who played Myst in the 90s but never solved a single puzzle but were still blown away by the still-frame images
