I love games that feature levels set in skyscrapers, I don't mean generic apartment towers but stuff like the high-end luxury hotels, ultra-modern office buildings/upscale corporate floors, or like private R&D labs. There's something about that that clean minimalistic, high-spec look and the tension of being somewhere high above the city: the smooth surfaces, the sleek architecture and refined interiors with ambient lighting, the massive panoramic windows stretching wall to wall, overlooking the city from impossible heights. They have that eerie feel of calm places that are normally out of reach, but now they’re all yours to explore.

Nice thoughts, but PE2 is great because of its story as a whole. I generally dislike seuels for being a derivative work of the first installment, but PE2 is just so well made and the story is so cool in its own right.

That's also my weakness and why I can't help but prefer games like bioshock over system shock, thief metal age over thief gold or human revolution and mankind divided over deus ex. drab industrial or same-looking shitholes are always some of my most hated levels because i hate the aesthetic.

Most Yakuza games involve a level/area like that. Sometimes it's the endgame area.

Hitman's an excellent shout. Perfect Dark is another but with a more futuristic tilt. Tomorrow Never Dies 007 on PS1 had a hotel level like this which I really liked as a kid.

In terms of newer games, Cyberpunk of course deserves a mention. It has the Konpeki Plaza raid at the beginning and the Arasaka Tower raid at the end.

Come to think about it Deus Ex (all of them) have a bunch of environments like this as well, in fact it seems the majority of the environments through the games fit this bill. It seems quite typical of a specific genre of games, the exploratory (often imsim) shooter.

Battlefield 3 came out in the same era from the same devs and has some office towers in the campaign that are in Mirror's Edge style.
The mutliplayer map Ziba Tower also wouldn't be out of place as a residence in Catalyst.

I should torrent that game and see if my new pc can run it any better. I remember trying to do stealth in it and quiting because of how bad the gameplay was. Might just do pure carnage playthrough since stealth being good in games is rare.
