All the gameplay I've seen of this thus far has looked like Battlefield 3 if it were made by wish.com.

If it does manage to gain any traction, it's solely due to having its title, in a similar way that clothing brands like Gucci have made their profit off of being an overly-hyped name. This franchise has just become a shell of its former self. It may carry the name but aside from brain-rotting zoomers who have consumed too much streamerslop, I don't think people are convinced that this is worth buying or even wasting ones' time playing.

I really don't get why they always go backwards with this series. They just have to lift all of the good shit from previous games but they just keep going back to this random baseline like many other games do for no good reason.

I think they have a chance to achieve it but it won’t be consistent to actually last. I expect EA is going to do an ad blitz when the Battle Royale mode launches for free. So they’ll be gobbling up a bunch of new free players while also adding free trials for people. Now in typical vidya company fashion, they’ll also count the same BF6 and BR players as seperate so they can double dip and stack the numbers higher. With enough shenanigans, they’ll get their desired number and trick the investors.

Of course it won't last. They're focused on "reaching a wider audience". This was quite apparent with Battlefield 1's marketing as well. People like Snoop Dogg was brought in to play it and it was clear that people who don't normally play games too often were sucked into buying it. This causes them to play the game when the hype is high and it's new and exciting, but drop it after a month or so.

The "reaching out to a wider audience" is also the cause of why we lose the core feeling and intent of these games. EA couldn't give a shit about isolating its old loyal players if it means they'll make more money if they spend a shitload of money to reach people who don't really care about games in general. And the more the average gamer and /v/-goer buy these games, the more we'll see this movement away from what we like and towards what attract casuals to buy games.
