What the flying fuck? Who pays that much for a shitty headset? And don't even start with gaming headset, there is NO DIFFERENCE between a normal headset and a gaming headset. Wireless doesn't count.

I got a $10 pair of Sony earbuds recently for yardwork and I'm amazed at how far they've come. Multiple replaceable ear pieces in the package, inline volume control, good isolation while still having decent soundstage and they aren't tinny as all fuck, actually sound kinda like my old on-ear MDRs. I thought earbuds were all still the hard plastic ear canal destroyers of 10 years ago that you threw away and immediately replaced with actual headphones.

Getting good quality stereo headphones is always the sensible option, don't get a headset anything, The gamer variants (except for maybe Audeze's headphones they put out, i don't know the quality) and non variants, get neither and make a separate investment on a desk mic or something. Wireless headphones last i knew about were garbage when listening to high fidelity audio tracks. So don't ever bother with wireless unless someone else can point to something good. I'm just unconvinced that wireless will ever sound as good as being directly plugged into a dac+amp combo of your choosing.

Me personally, whilst i would not recommend following my example. I spent upwards of one thousand on my headphones, but they've been with me for so long that I've never needed to upgrade. The concept of end game applies when you find something so perfect that it lasts you a long time and you never want to stop using them.

Audeze is the only company that has entered the gaming market that know what they're doing in regards to making headphones, every single gamer brand is likely shit compared to what they have on offer. So i will point you in the direction of their Maxwell headphones, much cheaper than all of their high end headphones too. But that also means that it's unlikely to be the exact same quality of their audiophile grade stuff. And it's rare to get good closed backs at the same time.

Obviously you're paying for the hardware; wireless charging base, 4/5 star audio quality, fold to mute, audio/mix controls built in. Had this for a few years now and only have these issues:

Dated as fuck software side that was hard to find, the astro site didn't have it and doesn't seem to support it anymore.
Got a big head here, so I had to take out the pad at the top. It felt like how that one tyler1 pic looks. That leaves the plastic spines there; while flimsy-feeling, haven't broken yet/are slightly bendy.
Decent comfort, though taking it off after a while is a relief. I wish the A50s were slightly larger. I had hyperX before and those were comfy as fuck.
Placing on the charging stand is finicky, the contacts don't always line up. On the other hand, the battery lasts a long time. Not having to plug in to charge is a fantastic convenience.

>>717268709
Accurate. I wish it had a pop filter or something. Also, flip-to-mute always plays a click sound to everyone else, though it's not enough to cause complaints.

Overall I'd rate these as worth it if you're getting a few years of mileage out of them. I will say that when these die for whatever reason, I'm going back to something simpler and more comfortable.

First of all you haven't even listed what headphone you used to compare to your garbage gamer headset. And secondly gamers are constantly tricked into buying these awful muddy bass headsets because they've been conditioned into thinking that this actually acceptable at all for any headphone to sound like that. There's a reason a decent pair of speakers (sold at any serious hi-fi store) won't ever sound as terrible as a gaming headset, not to mention will sound 10 times better than any shitty gaming headset. The real reason audiophiles go for better headphones is really only that they're trying to match their hi-fi home speaker setup. Which is really hard to achieve in regards to actually making that all sound good, when you're working with such small drivers. That is why the innovation of such drivers is expensive, because it's hard to have something as good as decent hifi speaker on your head.

1. No, the bass is not supposed to sound muddy or distorted. The cheap, small drivers in those gaming headphones can't extend bass well. The overwhelming number of companies that produce your average gaming headset don't know how to tune the sound of a headphone properly, so there is almost always some major sacrifice along the way. You want insanely boosted bass that'll blow your fucking ears off? Okay, but you're going to live with a sacrificed midrange. With other words, low clarity like shit vocal quality and overall reduced clarity. In your game and your music, it's not all just BASS BASS BASS, there are other aspects of sound as well.
2. You tried your friends' planar magnetic headphones, they were most likely open backs. Open backs simply cannot have a good boosted bass, because of their open nature. Try closed back audiophile headphones with a good bass boost. There are plenty of them out there.
3. It's okay to want a bass boost. I love a bass boost as well, but it must be done properly. It's one of the reasons why I now use IEMs a lot. A lot of IEMs tend to have a very good bass boost (because they can seal you off from your environment extremely well) + they still have very good detail.

I am in my 30s.
Audiophiles prefer tinny baseless quiet audio for some reason
I personally think its a hearing problem or brain problem(probably autism tbqh)
Also lots of sunk cost fallacy
>how can my 3k cans sound worse than a 200 dollary door gayming headset
>its cheap audio. fake audio. muddy bass

You didn't even point me towards your 'audiophile' planar headphone that you compared with your shitty Steelseries nova arctis pro ones, which are bad headphones. You just said you tried a planar but could not list any in the entire chain of replies I've had with you. Am i missing something?

It was like 4? Years ago and I didn't know the names even then, I just tried them out while I was at his place

I'm guessing he borrowed his buddy's big brother's pm headphones (that he can't remember the name of), plugged them directly into his Alienware® gaming laptop, then cried because they didn't sound good.

Their entire marketing is "tee hee silly name that is TOTALLY german". This is why a lot of their product naming was [product] schiit for the lols, i.e Fulla schiit.

Anyone here actually prefer IEMs over headphones? After owning the XENNS for a few months now, I think I actually prefer IEMs for gaming. I already preferred IEMs for music listening, but I enjoy them more for gaming as well. IEMs have better bass and the detail is just as good if not better. The only thing they can't compete with is the soundstage compared to open back headphones. I am willing to make this sacrifice. I think I'm going to make the switch to IEMs for now.

I don't like big headsets. Firstly, how does the size and weight not bother you? Second, I've never cared for 'noise-cancelling'. What if someone needs your attention or there is an emergency? Do you really not care? I'm totally capable of ignoring background noise so it doesn't bother me. Usually I only have 1 ear bud in anyway, never both.

This used to be me but recently I switched to "hovering" wireless earbuds, which mean they don't wedge into your ears. I've always avoided the buds with "ear hooks" but the trade-off for hovering is worth it. Also no cables is really nice but I still carry my old wired pair in case these run out of battery (they usually last the whole day so no problems yet)

I use headphones because I can't have complete sound isolation as a nigger could try to break into my house and I need to hear them so I can shoot them before they shoot me

The detection system is me hearing them breaking the front door
The defense system is me shooting at them with 12 gauge game load /slugs
