A great game with some mechanics that look more complicated than they actually are.
Keep your Phantom Points at maximum.
You only need three weapons: one for slashing, one for piercing and one for blunt. The overemphasizes how much "training" a weapon to hit certain enemy types actually does. These three damage types often make a much bigger impact. Don't try to train an anti-dragon spear. Just grab a spear, switch gems around. And important: buff yourself, debuff the enemy (if needed).
Also, the forging of new weapons isn't that complicated. When you combine a sword that does 15 damage with a sword that does 16 damage, then you often get the next upgrade that causes 17 damage. This usually works (some exceptions). It only gets really random if you combine weapons of different types.
Furthermore, enemies can drop weapons and armor that they themselves have equipped. You don't need to grind anything in this game. But if you see a knight wielding an axe you think looks cool, then you can farm him.
