The self-actualization for Sonic fans is realizing that all the "cool" things are derived from other media that is significantly better.

I get the fanbase being divided due to all the different takes on Sonic there are, but what do those takes have that makes them worthwhile over any other media that does the same thing? Pretty much nothing. If you're into it for the gameplay, that's done better in other games. If you're into it for the characters, you can find better characters elsewhere.

Figure out what it is you like about Sonic, and then abandon it for franchises that execute those ideas much better.

What else has character design and art style similar to Sonic other than Freedom Planet?

the entire premise of classic megaman is pretty similar to sonic if you boil it down blue guy beats evil doctor and environmental theme. but the whole ps1 - ds era of the franchise leans into that same teenage anime demographic as sonic did.
