Exactly. It was right around 2008 when I coincidentally was old enough to really form some thoughts and that's when I distinctly remember starting to feel like "Everything is kinda the same?" I even made a powerpoint against slop music in 2009.
Ever since then Gaming was my go-to because it hadn't reached "slop status"yet, but holy shit it has been a slop-market since the late 2010s. We're steadily on course to reach the Spotify "chill & vibe" era of music but for gaming.
I started listening to KoRn and Tool, and Sting, and Metallica and Beatles around 2009 or 2010. That's when I realized music used to be something more than just background noise. There used to be more art and soul in commercial music composition, and the same was true of movies and video games.
My first enemy was Disney Channel. I noticed growing up with older cartoons and shifting to that later, that it seemed to promote American Family Values in a different way than the 70s and 90s feature cartoons did. That's the first time I started "noticing".
