Yeah, it's more of a knowledge check than anything else. It's painful until you get your setup started. Though I remember the black dragon from the dlc area having one specific move that ignored dodge, so that fight was just hope to get lucky that it won't use that move to get enough time to kill it.
BS2 DLC 3 SL1 is the true pain experience.

Top of the list for me is Winterbell. I liked the calming music and in combination with the NPCs going about their day made the place feel incredibly safe and lively. Pretty much the only time I felt some sort of calm atmosphere outside of the Library. Works wonderfully as a final respite before the end of the line gauntlet.

Leveling up in E33 happens automatically. There might've been a picto which stops leveling up (there's so many it's hard to keep track of them) but it's impossible to beat the whole game at lvl 1. And besides, an E33 challenge run would be more about abusing the parry system rather than outmaneuvering enemies through pure RPG mechanics.
Apparently there are low level strats in Xenoblade, I never experimented with those, but that seems like pure masochist shit that might not even be possible to play through from beginning to end. BS2 is meanwhile not only possible for your average player, it's actively enjoyable.

Grotesque Land Story (a "webseries" he hasn't finished yet btw) is interesting in the same way Koishi Komeji's Adventure is interesting and that is okay as it serves as a creative outlet to improve his skills as a storyteller and artist

Black Souls in particular seems to attract BG3/E33/Blood Meridian-tier shitposting lately. We're playing in the big leagues now.

i started BS2 after finishing the first one last year and so far i'm not enjoying it as much. the gameplay was supposed to be better but it's basically the same, except you don't even get to build a team of your wives and have them fight alongside you (massive downgrade in my eyes). not to mention you don't get to have them at the same place.
on top of that it's as easy to get high stats. why would you buy colored souls for 5k when you can spend 1k on medicine and snort black souls like crazy? you can also farm souls from rabbits pretty much within the first 15min.

BS2's stat cap is 109998 for your core stats, DLC 3 expects you to have roughly somewhere between 10k-20k. Basegame content is still horrifically easy to break though, even if the overall combat system is better than it is in BS1.
You also don't have to grind if you don't want to, just do a SL1 run or something instead.
