Have a 1070ti but my cousin wants to sell me his pc with a 3080. He's asking for quite a lot so it's not a great deal but I feel like buying it and then upgrading that PC will be better ultimately than starting from scratch with an all ew PC, considering everything on mine is dated and can't really be upgraded

GTX 1080. One already died at the very end of warranty so I got a new one. It needs to stay alive at least 2-4 more years

Idk much about PCs but the 4090 is the best card on the market. Unless I'm misunderstanding the whole physx fiasco.

It can play old games and still has enough power to emulate Bloodborne. It can play PS4/Xbox games like Arkham Knight at max settings.

yeah the 4090 is a great sweetspot from the 4070ti / 4080 series with the much lower VRAM, and the 5090 which is just waaaaay overkill.
4090 doesnt have the physx issues AND you can even handle AI stuff on it pretty well.
Only real downside is how goddamn overpriced it is

I think it's because everyone knows the 5000s are shit because of the physx problem.

Non of this would be an issue if modern games were good. So since it's all slop why would you need anything post a 4090?

This also goes into consoles as a concept. The whole point of the consoles was their optimization and their exclusives.

I think the first person who manages to make a commodore 64 work in the modern day will probably make millions. The steam deck got close but it's not a PC or a laptop.
