I don't play multi so it probably not meta, but what I do usually is buy dwellings the first few days, then go for castle (but usually only getting citadel on the first week), then having bought out all units I can at the start of the second week, I go off further away with my main hero and aim for capitol in the meantime.

fucking bullshit cheating NPC armies keep me from ever enjoying myself

the only fun I ever had with this game was taking turns in head-to-head mode at the PC lab in my middleschool
