It's not outside rare cases where the original film was lost and it's the only option to "restore" something to theatrical quality, and even then I'd still probably take degraded VHS or fuzzy 480i quality over some shitty AI upscale that gives off emulator filter vibes.

that's gonna eventually backfire on civilization. knowledge, effort and information will all plateau. disinformation will become rife. complex fields will become black boxes since everyone sits at the bottom slopping AI to do the surface tier stuff. states will have more control and surveillance because everyone is using AI and AI farms everyone and everything's data and creating digital dossiers on everyone that not even Erich Mielke and the Gestapo could dream of. It will inevitably all unravel and come apart.

You cannot "restore" data were it is not to begin with like that without creating new data by guessing. This invariably changes the original vision of the artist. Without the original creator going over every miniscule detail to make sure it's like it was meant to be these kind of remakes are useless nonsense.

I dunno, people are saying that AI is the future of creative endevours but looking at it just seems like the future is just gonna be full of shit? Like I'm not saying that being artist is some sorta special snowflake thing but giving the average consumer the tools to make literally anything they want and they just make.....extremely boring garbage? Most people just aren't that creative and that's fine, I just fail to see the point in giving everyone these tools and creating a landfill of content is supposed to be a good idea. Because every person with serious intentions on persuing a creative endevour are going to do it ANYWAY. There is not a single person on this Earth who seriously wants to be an artist, filmmaker, game designer or whatever that can't do it without the use of AI.

You most definitely can't. Not without maybe innovating new hardware and even then you're creating a different kind of limitation. There's always the best camera, highest resolution etc. And even then using a "lesser" camera or an unorthodox resolution or aspect ratio may be *a part of the vision*.

Limitation can breed a better product though. Games were better when developers had more limits on what could be created. It forced outside of the box thinking and created new ideas that otherwise wouldn't have existed. We now live in a period of time where there are no limits as to how high the resolution on a texture could be or how many polygons an object can have, yet we're going through a creatively bankrupt period where all the tech has gone to waste. It's gluttonous and lacks any artistry. You don't create something great because you have the most expensive equipment, you create something great when you're able to create your vision in spite of limitations.

the funny thing is, in real life the people who control the means are going to retain all the commonplace features of human interaction while converting them to "privileges" for those who are subject to those means. civilization will continue, just not for everyone.

The only reason AI is so publicly available right now is because the tech companies want more data to improve their algorithms. As SOON as the Jews can make minimum viable product entirely from generative AI, watch as they regulate it so only the core movie studios and game publishers can use it.

Yes. In fact, it should be mandatory, and the obsolete versions detroyed. By force. This is why everything has a backdoor built into it. And for any rogue physical copies, those which are not turned in voluntarily should receive a visit from the gestapo, and thrown in the gulag, until the debt from their economic terrorism is paid in full. Better work extra hard, food and board in the prison isn't cheap, and neither are the interest payments. Failure to meet your payments will result in additional punishment, and your family may be expected to make up the difference.

And this WILL happen in your lifetime.

Only if you're doing the prompting yourself, which you can with your own model. For free. Which begs the question, why would you pay an AI artist money on Patreon to generate content when you can just as easily pay for a subscription on a service and have unlimited generation for yourself? It makes no sense and that's why being an AI artist is doomed to fail, at least in a commercial sense.

I've been playing with Veo for a while now for work.

It's insane how fast your brain adjusts and normalises things. It's gotten to the point that I can create a little 10 second video of literally anything I can imagine, and I'm already over it. I don't care and I care even less about videos other people have "made", it's like hearing a about their boring dreams.

It's gone from unimaginably advanced to played out and whatever within a 6 months. The sort of thing that I've spent a lifetime honing my skills towards made redundant, not just on a practical level but on a philosophical one. AI didn't make vieual art, it killed it as a concept.

You sort of can for still shots or photographs- take multiple images, or multiple frames of a video, and mesh 'em together to get the best parts of multiple images, be it dynamic range or less noise or sharpness and so on. People did it in darkrooms with manual enlargers 50 years ago and people did it in Photoshop 5 minutes ago, but it requires multiple source images or files, time, and actual effort, so it'll probably go the way of the dodo compared to "high detail, smooth skin, noise reduction, sharp, (masterpiece), (score:7), (score:8), super 35, ((high quality))".

AI generated stuff is whatever to me, it will get better, but it just doesn't do it for me right now.
The problem that I have is more the attitude that this will "kill" artists. I think that human made art will still have its' own place, even just from the novelty of "This was made by a human" in a post AI dominated world. That, and the fact that AI datasets which algorithmically generates based on best fit solutions are never going to truly get the weird and wonderful niches or "out there" ideas. Again, just to not be called a luddite, I don't have anything against AI itself, but to claim it will remove humanity from art (This is a pro and anti AI talking point) is silly as fuck.

Of the artists that keep going, I think that most of them are just fine doing their own thing and getting revenue some other method than direct commissions.
Those are really more artists that have a piece in their mind they are willing to make, instead of waiting for people to commission them with their ideas.

Film is what makes it great. Part of the reason movies are such a fucking mess 90% of the time these days is because when you fuck up film craft it ranges from several hours or days of time editing to several hundreds of thousands of dollars doing reshoots depending on what you fucked up. Ergo, the artist puts more conscious effort into not fucking it up. It's built in. Don't get me wrong, digital media has enabled all sorts of geniuses to make great things they wouldn't have otherwise, but generally it makes the lowest common denominator even lower. The original art is a product of its time, and for that it's beautiful. Making it le heckin detailed doesn't do shit to improve it.

drawing true photorealism is something basically no one will ever manage to do, even the greats of old, and that's fine, because the whole point isn't copying reality
making photos of things that don't and can't exist can trick your brain into finding it hotter or something idk

Music teachers are pissed because kids keep signing up then not practicing at all
And you obviously need to practice with your instrument at home to become proficient

I engage with them on occasion and ask to see an example of AI-assisted/generated work concerning the topic being discussed and it's just the sloppest of the slop being presented to me like it's some revolutionary thing. There's no response I can give at that point, I just have to keep quiet and move on. If I could compare it to some mental illness, it's like women who get cosmetic surgery work done on their faces.

That's how the industry works. That this shit, ugly version is for a specific purpose doesn't change that. Another example is record companies applying pitch correction to old famous albums from the 50s and 60s and replacing the older versions on the official youtube channel.

That's debatable if the source footage had the capability to be expanded into that resolution without alteration. For example, HD X-Files looks fine but HD Seinfeld looks like shit because they had to cut off the top and bottoms of the original broadcast footage to make it "widescreen."

It wont "kill" artists I agree with that, however it will be a blow for sure. Artists won't have the utility they once had. Back then if you wanted niche fetish content you either drew it yourself or asked someone to draw it for you and most people chose the latter. Now you can generate it so what's the point in paying someone? I really can't say for certain what the future will look like for artists in general as I can see a lot of things happening.
