Do these guys actually make good games, or is it all just mediocre releases? Their last Contra game just wasn't that good from the demo, and I'm playing Shantae right now and it is such a slow paced game. It's just better to jump over everything rather than attacking due to how tanky most foes you encounter. It's even better with one's you can two shot because you hit them once and they go flying so you have to run after them to hit them again.

The difference is that with gachas you already know you aren't into it and you aren't the demographic they're aiming for. With something like this, reading people constantly glazing them and then actually playing the games because you do enjoy 2D games. That is different.

They can make good games, but they usually make mid games that are kinda fun at first but get boring pretty quick and don't really get much better. However their good games are good even if flawed (Sigma Star Saga, Contra 4, Mighty Switch Force for example).

I've really enjoyed the WayForward games I've played. They aren't the greatest games ever but WayForward definitely has some talented designers.

Shantae and The Seven Sirens was great.
The Mummy Demastered was really good, despite being a licensed movie game. (It's very Metroid inspired).
Shantae Half-Genie Hero was just alright.

Do they? Advance Wars was a relatively niche/dead series that might as well not have existed in japan. Only reason wayforward likely got it was because it wasn’t a series they cared all that much about and given wayforward has a history with them (and likely asked to do it in the first place) they just threw that bone to them cause they likely didn’t have a good reason otherwise not to

My wife played this, it was super hard. I don't think I can stop hearing the soundtrack in my head now. IMO, girls who like these games are actual gamers. This isn't EZ baby slop. this isn't even true. my wife is a 300 lb whale (you'd call her ugly but i think she's pretty) and she loves cute girl characters.

the only difference is that she also likes the dykey-looking women, but only if they look stereotypically attractive, just masculine for a woman. she hates this deliberate ugliness trend too, though she probably doesn't care as viscerally as we do.

Idk anon shantae 1 is pretty comfy, shantae 3 is genuinely great, and so is shantae 5. Shantae 2 and 4 are kinda whatever and 6 while good is pretty short

Even Sakurai made a guide for Xevious which has a joystick and two buttons. There can be things said about games, and strategies for them. Even something like Sonic has depth even when it's a one button game due to its physics and how it interacts with the level design.
