>>717314249I don't know what you're talking about. I never said "luck based elements" were "invented" with the turnwheel. I said turnwheel makes it easy to rig.
Look at it like this.
Imagine if you had turnwheel charges in Conquest 12 - the Ryoma pot map. The challenge on this map is escaping in 16 turns. You can either do this by bypassing Ryoma entirely to an escape tile, or killing him, which rewards you with a secret book.
The thing is, Ryoma is dangerous - he's dodgy and he has Vantage and a lot of crit rate. You need to come up with a good, sound plan to kill him. If a turnwheel was available in Conquest, you could just save your charges to the end, and rig your way to victory. It trivializes what is otherwise an interesting tactical decision.
This happens a lot in Engage, as a matter of fact. The issue with the turnwheel isn't that it lets you do-over a fuckup or a death. It's that it allows you to rig if you're skilled.
>>717314339Fire Emblem also allows you to respawn fallen units midfight. Something that obviously makes it way too easy to complete maps since you can just throw your troops into the meatgrinder until the enemies are all dead. And I don't like that so I don't use it.
Do you mean RNG manipulation when you say rigging? Sounds like you're already not playing the games the way they were intended to be so what's wrong with simply ignoring a feature?

you are literally proving that it is a self control issue, because no actual gameplay mechanic is changed by not using turnwheel, it doesn't stop you from optimizing your clear to prevent misses or whatever, you just prefer to not do all of that and rig your way to victory, which is fine if you're just doing a casual clear, but it is stupid to argue that it's not something you can just ignore and play around like you did in literally every game that existed before it was invented

The game offers you all kinds of upgrade options, many of which go beyond being helpful and opening up new ways of play and instead completely break the game's difficulty. Extra hearts, health refill packs, all of them would obviously trivialize difficulty to the point that I question why the devs were willing to render their hard work moot so effortlessly. >implying people would touch shart dragon and nu mystery
>>717316808>the game will forcibly load up a rewind charge.>At that point you either have to a) use it or b) reload the map.So not really forcibly, then? All the game is doing is telling you what your options from this point are. Forcibly would be the game autoexpending a rewind charge to whenever and then overwriting your save data to this point. There is nothing stopping you from reloading the map in this case which you would have already done had the rewind feature not been active in the first place. If you can't resist using a feature that you think is extraneous and ruins the game then at a certain point it's entirely on you. We agree turn wheel is poor design (though I think if it was capped at 3H's initial limit of three per map it'd be the perfect amount for those couple really bad whiffs or unfortunate enemy crit procs) but I disagree that it's an active problem with game enjoyment that requires a new solution. It already has one: don't use it. Your continued focus on exposure to it being the real issue only validates my initial prognosis of you lacking self-restraint. This isn't an issue at all to people who can't just ignore shit they don't like.

I don't care about le game design being le tarnished because at the end of the day it's just a menu option you are never forced to use, and if it is the case that you have to set a limit on yourself to have more fun with the game then so be it, the entire point of the mechanic is to create options for how to play the game, but for some reason this makes you cope and seethe and pretend like it's some impossible task to avoid this choice

If the next FE swapped the turnwheel for three gems that you use as you wish to set a return point which can only be returned to a single time before "breaking" or whatever that would be an improvement.
>narcus made off with half my gold
I am going to skin him
>>717318384I mean the fact the game had the balls to take it away in the same chapter they no longer have rings, where enemies now have it, in a game they intended for newbies is quite remarkable.
Like houses hard is piss easy because they were afraid new players might have shit units due to the freedom.
The mature game for mature gamers is afraid to treat them as adults but the kiddy game does.
>>717318513Based war crimes chad.
He also has the best ending.
>>717318541This is the actual reason anons are against a toggle. It's fags who really fucking love it unabashedly, and want everyone on the same playing field, so they don't have to feel ashamed. It's gaming communism, basically.
>>717318512They are smart to only account to normal people and not schizos.
>>717318676at the end of the day they are fundamentally the same thing, one is simply done through an emulator and the other is done through the actual game
if you can ignore save states you can ignore turnwheel
if you can't ignore save stating, then sucks to be you I guess
>>717318795Normoids won't even buy your game unless you make them a smoking hot teacher who can fuck their students. We've seen that already with Engage. I don't know if it's a flawless long term strategy.
You know what's underdiscussed?
How beautiful Lucina is.
>>717318912Why is she not flat?
>>717318910Normal as in not people who cant stop using the features they think make the game easy.
>>717318946>expecting secondaries - or worse, bandwagoners - to follow lore and canon
>>717318763>I'm against a toggle because I don't think it's necessary to enjoy the gameReally putting words into my mouth there. I would be completely indifferent to one if it was added. Because it's still just an option and options don't bother me as much as they do some people ITT.
>>717318807They aren't. If something happens to you in turn 20 and you want to rewind turnwheel lets you go back in granular detail over every unit action of the past 20 turns and pick which specific action you want to go back before. With save states if you suffer a disaster on turn 20 and want to go back but haven't actually set any save states for that map you'd have no choice but to reset the entire map. Turnwheel is a bit more than just normal save stating in all fairness.
>>717319008Have you ever criticized the Monastery btw?
>>717318912Discussing fake stuff is usually deserved for gameplay, like Amelia being a good unit.
>>717318912This but current timeline Lucina.
>>717319134Not much. And I played it 4 times. I can give or take it really.
>>717319201>4 timesOh, so it's just straight up 3Hpiggies defending turnslop, then. How did I not realize sooner.
>>717319112they are "fundamentally" the same in that they are optional features that allow you to undo mistakes or bad RNG rolls
most emulators also have a rewind feature if your last save state is too far back, the point is that it is always possible to rig shit as much as you want with the both of them but you are never held at gunpoint to do so
I hope Nintendo EPD personally oversee the next FE's difficulty design just so I can watch you faggots mald over it having options that you can't resist using.
>>717319294I also playing Engage 4th run.
That said I am willing to concede it being offered as a toggle. Just opposed to its removal.
Imagine all the save stating that happened in the relays if you faggots can't even resist pressing a button on a controller lmao.
>>717301426Gives casuals an excuse to use their luck stat boosters on someone instead of saving it for the endgame.
>>717301382Based, this guy consistently makes my strategies work
If you used the Monastery, you have no right to criticize or believe it shouldn't exist. Is what I've learned from these threads.
>>717319716unlike troonwheel the game is actively designed around monastery albeit
>>717319768Are you sure? Pretty sure you can beat it without it. So it's optional by definition.
>>717319502Also playing NM.
Also why dont we see Nagi in Awakening? She is willing to help against Medeus.
>>717319550I actually did an ironman for the first time in the relays. I did LynnMode and most of Tacthack.
Feels very different.
>>717319836character building is almost entirely dependant on it so yeah I am sure
>>717319716Where are these posts defending the existence of turnwheel? All we've been going back and forth on is that while turnwheel is here why not simply ignore it?
>>717318218Serenoa deserves to get his sword polished
>>717319956Why not ignore the Monastery?
>>717319991You can. The game never forces you to engage with it, really. And that's a hell of a lot more intrusive than turnwheel has ever been.
>>717302991There's no way Egyptians were white with that heat, they would all die from skin cancer you fucking retard, whites thrived on mediterranean and cold temperatures, anything remotely like Africa or the Middle East would fucking kill them
>>717320039Just wanted to get you to admit the equivalence. I guess it's really that dire, then. Game devs have no responsibility to design their games, because the player can just ignore all the parts they don't like.
the only argument that can be made in favor of turnwheel being actively bad for the game is if you can prove, definitely, beyond reasonable doubt, that the map and game design has been done with its existence and use in mind and that it has altered it in a negative way
>>717320117You can beat Super Mario Bros. without using power ups. I guess that's bad design since you can just choose not to use that mechanic.
You still never demonstrated how turnwheel affects how the games are designed. Not how they are played but how they are designed.
>>717320186You don't have to prove that. You only have to show that it can be abused to trivialize the maps. Which it can. Does anyone doubt 10 save states can be used to trivialize careful map design?
If you're okay with that, then it's good or fine. If you think this is bad design, then it's not fine.
>>717297592Doesnโt Kagero put a knife to Azamaโs throat because he said she dressed like a slut?
>>717320368Only the JP version.
She has a woman moment over him commenting about her scarf in the localization.
>>717320363skimir keeps trying to hit on soren when ike isn't looking
>>717320307I can also "trivialize" the maps by picking normal mode, I'm not gonna say the game is worse or has bad design because I can pick an easier difficulty to beat it
a completely optional mode or feature that doesn't change the rest of the game will never make a game worse, it will simply create another option
>>717320307You are still talking about how the game is played and not how it was designed. Show me an instance in FE where a map was designed such that the only way you could reasonably overcome an obstacle was with the turnwheel.
>>717319885>He doesn't knowWe do see her, and she does help.
if you haven't fought this you don't know what a REAL rig-conscious design looks like
>>717319550i save stated in one of the fe7 relays and realized that I posted a level up screenshot from a timeline I undid (sain died later) so i had to spend like 5 minutes rigging an identical level up
>>717320653So the Monastery can't be criticized. It's optional and you don't need to trivialize 3H, you can just eschew and play a harder version of the game.
>>717320039then you softlock in chapter 13 because you didn't prepare for it dumbass
>>717320807unfortunately, the monastery fails the "doesn't affect the rest of the game" part quite severely, so it is quite open to criticism
>>717319408They reset when units die anyway.
>>717320851What does that mean? Are you telling me a difficulty option doesn't affect "the rest of the game"?
>>717320902if you want to play the highest difficulty, you are perfectly capable of doing so, and normal mode's existence won't negatively affect the higher difficulty's design
>>717319408I hope the minigames are forced instead being optional too
I can't play Sacred Stones because of Seth. Not even benching him helps. Just the simple knowledge that he exists and is never more than a few inputs away from wrecking the game design makes it impossible for me to derive any enjoyment from the game. Please help.
>>717320841Nigger, turnwheel isn't going to help you none if you go into chapter 13 unoptimally. That's when you load an earlier save file entirely.
>>717320902Choosing between Normal and Hard mode actually affects how a map is set up (unit stats, event triggers, etc.). Using turnwheel or not has no bearing on how the map is designed provided the difficulty is unchanged so in that regard it does not affect the game design.
Goddammit Shiida!
>>717320717I mean why not go there? That way your characters don't get fucked at the beggining.
>>717321001>>717321161This just makes me once again return to a simple question, though. Why isn't it rewind a damn mode or toggle? If this is our ideal - i.e. "this possibly undesired/casual feature should not affect anything but itself," why isn't it an actual selectable, hard option? What could possibly be the downside to this?
At minimum, it's forced on the lord. So at minimum, it has an affect. Why aren't you in favor of it being totally separate, if this is one of your criteria?
>>717291547 (OP)in order to strive for greatness, you must be white.
simple
browns only squabble to be on the middle rung of the ladder with no positive impact on the world
>>717321161Are you suggesting no one's ever criticized Seth or Sacred Stones for having Seth lol?
>>717321250so long as it's entirely optional and doesn't affect the rest of the game, I don't see the problem, play how you want
>>717298687Only in Three Hopes. In Three Houses, it's teenage edginess that he grows out of quickly.
>>717321445You're avoiding the question.
It's optional, but it "affects the game." However small, it does affect the game, and can't be entirely ignored. If it's about player choice, then more granular choice - a toggle - must be a good thing. But you seem to be against this, or are wishy-washy on it at best. Why?
>turnwheel seethers are stuck in a circular pattern of reasoning
ironic. just ignore it btw
>>717321250Because like reasonable people IS assumed that players who didn't like it would simply choose not to use it so a toggle or a mode for it wasn't necessary.
>>717321379Of course not. My point is that Seth is an obvious game design flaw that can be circumvented without too much trouble. It's not a defense of him but since Sacred Stones isn't likely to get patched anytime soon he's not going anywhere so you might as well take some easy steps to minimize his impact on the experience.
This would all be resolved if you could explain how a toggle isn't a win-win-win, a triple win for everybody. The best of all possible worlds. But you can't. You enjoy being annoying.
>>717321782There's nothing wrong with Seth stomping all over Sacred Stones.
>>717321835A toggle would be worse for sales because normalfags want to play the higher difficulties but hate losing and will quit the game if they do. Therefore, a toggle means less sales.
>>717321251Now that's not nice.
Nagi shows her how its done.
>>717321835I would welcome it but if they dont thats also fine.
But guess thats not an option when you are autistic.
>>717321835this is the most retarded argument /vfeg/ has gotten into dince at least... yesterday
>>717322105I think it was two days ago we had the probability discussion that was way more stupid than whatever was going on yesterday.
>>717321835>>717321924For the last time, I am indifferent towards a toggle being in the game. From my point of view there is zero difference between turning off the wheel at the start of a game and having it on but choosing to never use it no matter what. It would make zero difference to me. All I have been arguing is that turnwheel in its present state does not require a separate toggle to be circumvented and ignored.
>>717321636I said I was against it when? I don't care what you do with the turnwheel so long as you don't force or assume its usage, if a toggle is what will make you happy, then sure, go ahead
if you can just back out of a menu or reset the game when your lord dies, it's not "affecting" the gameplay by any means, it's a minor time loss at worst, which sure, I can do away with, doesn't mean the entire turnwheel has to go with it
>>717322105>>717322158Nah, the Ross math discussion was more retarded because nobody was willing to actually check the fucking numbers that was hard proof and kept arguing in circles
>>717311420It is. That's why people contort themselves into pretzels to justify using it like the people who replied to you.

Taking the piss on 3hrt fags and trannius shits huh?
>>717318541>shit like Phoenix Mode made no pretense that you were playing the same game as skilled players when selecting it.So beating the game on the hardest difficult does make you skilled. Good to know. People were saying that it didn't a few threads back.
On game design, I think the ideal way to do difficulty would be to design it such that the only things that change are accessibility options while elements inherent to the gameplay like level design and stats remain completely unchanged. In FE's case, the easiest setting would allow everything from no perma death to turnwheel while the hardest mode would have all of that turned off with Ironman style autosaving after every single action on the battle field. The point of easier difficulties also should not be just to give people an entrypoint to the game they're comfortable with but ultimately to try to shepherd them into trying higher difficulties and stepping out of their comfort zone.
>>717323042To some extent, yes. You can still get more skilled than that, though
>>717323047Fuck that, just remove the weapon triange and the ui for checking enemy ranges. Now that's how you do a hard mode.
>>717291547 (OP)>Mustafa>Villain
the casuals should be glad at how much heavy lifting I did to defend turnwheel ITT, I don't even use that shit or even like it, I just recognize I can simply ignore it
>>717323179Weapon triangle I could see since it tends to mostly benefit the player, but weapon range was peak retardation and I'm not sure what ISIS was thinking.
>>717323047Ironman mode is literally "never, ever" tier but if it were to happen, it would need to be its own thing, not locked to the highest difficulty setting. Frankly ironman requires you to play in some pretty retarded, degenerate ways and on balance it isn't necessarily harder than resetting in a lot of cases. But I like the idea of it as a mode, and I like it in roguelikes. I just think it should never be forced in a game like FE.
>>717323204I don't care for Heroes much but Chrom apologizing to Mustafa to what happened to him moved me.
The Pilla supports were also nice.
>>717323109Absolutely. There was just some bizarre autistic contrarianism where people were trying to claim you aren't at least skilled at a game if you beat the game on the highest difficult.
Not a master. Not a legend. Not even an expert. Just skilled.
>don't use turnwheel
>fail the chapter the first time because I don't remember the exact triggers
>play the chapter again and beat it first try now that I know the triggers
>use turnwheel, just beat the chapter in one go since I can rewind on me playing into the trigger
>>717323179The triangle stays. Engage already fixed enemy range display by it only being a check on the unit currently selected instead of outright showing you who each enemy unit was going to attack on Enemy Phase.
>Cry cry cry cry cry cry cry about how Turnwheel ruined the series or whatever
