Do you prefer playing as a male character or a female character, when presented with a choice?

Girl because then I can self-insert and pretend to be one

Male first playthrough, because that's me
Female second playthrough to see if there are differences (not usually)

Are there statistical differences or classes locked to specific choices?

Girl because they are cute and I’m an agp tranny. Male if they look good but that’s rare

If there's any meaningful difference, I usually pick male first and then female second playthrough so I can see all the content. On any subsequent playthroughs, I pick whatever I feel like doing, although gravitate towards female since they often have twice as many clothing options and I like playing dress-up.

Do you look up if there are differences beforehand? That doesn't seem like worth it in the great majority of games. I'm actually struggling to remember what was the last game with a significant change when selecting gender. Mount and blade? That one was amazing..

I will if it's a genre that tends to have differences, like WRPGs. Otherwise probably not and I just go male the first time and then female if I feel like it's worth replaying. I did that with FE 3 Houses, and I thought a lot of the dialogue was better with a girl because when playing male, a lot of the game feels extremely homoerotic since the main characters are all playersexual.
