I'm going to choose to believe there is a lore reason for this even though I know perfectly well that there is not.

Honestly, doing a solo run during the time my friends aren't on makes me appreciate everything more. Having buddies share various duties along with 4x the inventory makes exploration nice along with naturally playing with friends. The only downside is having to grind out multiple keypads and trying to share same loot so we can all get weapons/armor. Playing solo means I get to learn the maps more and understand certain mechanics better along with actually knowing what audio logs are somewhat referencing because I'm there. We came back to 1.0 starting fresh after clearing out the Security sector last time. We only play once a week though and are currently half way through Manufacturing. Solo wise I just beat the furniture store.

I think the biggest QOL this game needs is either autocrafting sub parts for a recipe when you have them or being able to hit back and automatically go back to the recipe instead of looking for it.

The level design is both amazing and horrible.
Every area feels unique and they are all interconnected.

Even the soups that give buffs are only 10% experience gain, so if you really wanted to min-max it's easier to make whatever soups you have the ingredients for and eat brains for their XP multiplier instead.
You can check your journal for all the soup recipes and it'll show what you can make with ingredients you've discovered, even if it doesn't show what it makes.
But Meaty Stew's 10% melee xp buff for just a chop, drumstick, and rump is the easiest.

If I was in charge of reworking it I'd cut the hydration meter entirely and put in a stomach meter that stops you from eating food after a certain point, and a nutrition meter that provides buffs to all your stats when it's full, but can't kill you if it's emptied.

So you could fill up on easy stuff like soups but the only way to keep nutrition full would be to make high-tier stuff.

I agree with the anons shitting on the jetpack because it feels way worse to use in the majority of cases but there are some benefits, and Canaan runs are one. You can make one hover up to the outhouse past the mine, one up to the scaffolding, then one up the gap to the swamp. It takes like two minutes from the entry portal.

The jetpack really is just shittier for avoiding fall damage and horizontal traversal which is the most important thing, so the use cases are pretty scarce, but when it's useful it's REALLY useful.

I set up a temporary base in the labs next to one of the antegem converters but i'm worried it's going to get overran unless i spam more crafting benches to block spawns.

When you get into the storage maze, the reaper can't open the shutter doors. So just stealth into each shutter, quickly open and close it, then loot and wait for him to pass.
