The love story twist coming out at the end was pretty bad story telling, but Super in general had some nice writing sprinkled everywhere else throughout the story. The biggest problem with the game was the gameplay itself and level design, it it was converted into a standard Paper Mario game and crunched together a bit, it would have been on par with the first two games.

John K is really not talented enough to have the kinds of opinions that he has, much less about video games. Even if he really held this opinion about Super Mario Brothers, which he most certainly does not, he is either too ignorant to realize the Paper Mario series is entirely different or too stupid to appreciate that very cogent fact. John K may be a talented animator, but his storytelling prowess leaves a LOT to be desired. Almost nothing in either incarnation of Ren and Stimpy was particularly compelling (And not for nothing, but both Crayon Shin Chan and Doraemon have actually compelling characters) and the development hell that is "Cans Without Labels" doesn't seem to be much different. John K is just a has-been who has more energy for his vitriolic blogs than actually finishing what his fans have paid him money for.
