This game is arguably TOO big. I just want to get on with the story, I don’t want to spend ten hours exploring a new region and doing 50 “intel” quests. I get they put a lot of effort into creating a big open beautiful world but I really just want to get on with the story. I just finished Corel region and I’m at Gongaga and they already hit me with all this optional stuff. And I’m completely ignoring Chadley’s VR battles and the all the endless mini games

trying to 100% a region is the most painful fucking thing imaginable to the point I dropped the game for several months and picked it back up yesterday
whoever designed cosmo canyon and gongaga should be fucking demoted for how fucking SHIT going through the regions are.
I would bet a majority of people trying to complete every region similarly dropped the game on either of those fucking regions.

Do you get the option to skip this shit in FF7R2? In part one they would completely stop the story, make it daylight, and then have a whole chapter dedicated to pointless sidequests and it fucking sucked.

You can ignore like 70% of the stuff the game throws at you, it's not like you won't need to go back and do all the chapters again on hard mode to unlock all the weapon manuscripts anyways.

Gongaga and cosmo canyon are filters for those who complained about muh yellow paint and "muh organic exploration" but refuse to look around for paths and 100% reliant on the map

I suffer from the same issue where I have to at least try to get everything but I realize the issue is with me.
I can't complain about a game having too much content, it's objectively a good thing, and it's not a requirement.

I even find most of it within Rebirth fun but yea it's easy to get burnt out when you get to a new area and the cycle repeats.

Yes! I think that's what is bugging me. Theyhave proportions that are too stylzied but are realistic 3D so it's clashing and it's uncanny. Her face and proportions are just wrong. AC is more realistic proportions and looks better.

Tifa's chin is just too pointy. They couldn't decide "anime" or "realism" so went with both at the same time and it does NOT work.

People aren't going nuts for Tifa or Aerith anymore because they are bug eyed aliens who creep them out.

Square virtually gave away nearly an entire $50 worth of content for free. I actually found it refreshing because they could have easily included it as DLC and people still would have purchased it.

Come to think of it, the only DLC for Rebirth are a bunch of useless-ass summons and some trash accessories that become obsolete three chapters in. No Interlude or anything.

The only real issue I have with it is that you need to do that bullshit Cactuar Crush minigame in order to unlock some shit. I'm doing a playthrough of hard mode and I have 80/88 of Johnny's trophies. I should get a couple more once I do Chudley's hard trials, but I'll probably never bother doing that stupid fucking chocobo flight minigame.

I literally downloaded a mod that removed yellow paint and didn't have problems with the game at all UNTIL fucking Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon.

The best part of Final Fantasy VII as a kid was when everyone stopped to do choregraphed dancing. Seeing all the gay and interracial couples again also made me nostalgic. My favourite part was climbing towers to reveal the map for a sentient robot though. Such a classic game.

You were never a FF7 fan.
Gongaga was purposely designed with a layer of obfuscation. The OG had a shitload of these areas (great glacier, sleeping forest, the forgotten capital). You just need to slow down, observe the terrain and use your spatial skills to identify the intended path. It's not difficult but if you're expecting a clear corridor path, it can be a little painful.

Maybe I'm just used to this punishment because I was born in the 80s and cut my teeth with deceptive map terrain in JRPGs. If I was born in the early 00's, it's possible I'd be disgusted with Gongaga too.

open world is a buffet some people like this or that etc you pick what you like and eat it you dont pick what you dont like and then bitch at the kitchen staff like a moron.

The game can be played as a typical non open world single player game none of the optional stuff you dont like (but others might like) is forced on you, its your choice, you control the buttons you press.

Jesus christ the only negative idiots can even come up with in rebirth is that there is too much game... while they choose to make it that way and then bitch about it and pacing. Just dont do the stuff you dont like and it fixes everything for you be it pacing or open world.

None of the sidequests, simulation arenas, minigames are required. That's all it is. You get everyone's final weapons and gear in the last area anyway. If Square decided to omit the progress bar for each region, you wouldn't even know you missed anything like in remake.

I'm currently on hard mode for the platinum. Yeah this game is fucking huge and it's great. It's a rare case where I'll give it 120 hours over the course of a year.

Played the first area and quit half a year ago cause the intel shit was too much autism for me. Gonna play again tomorrow after watching a recap, and now I got a 1440p QD-OLED so looking forward to seeing how certain scenes will look. Gonna restart probably now that I think about it.

For me this was Remake. I hardly remember any moments from Rebirth but think about Remake often.

For the most part yes. In the initial playthrough there is a bit of forced interaction with the open world in the first area (about 10-ish minutes) but after that you can completely ignore it if you want.

They said there wouldn’t be any DLC for Rebirth so they could go straight to Part 3. From memory Squenix said that the reason Rebirth was nearly 4 years later was because of Covid plus the Yuffie DLC which caused them to lose a year. I’m fine with them skipping DLC for Rebirth if it means we get Part 3 in 2027

To be fair to the anon on Gongaga I do somewhat agree with the mushroom traversal on the basis it wasn’t consistent. There were some small ones that would take you a long way and big ones that would move you a couple of feet at best. Still my favourite zone after Junon though.
